VN Ren'Py Completed Katawa Shoujo [Final] [Four Leaf Studios]

Okay, so I decided to go with the original version, so I thought: "Eh, that HD patch sounds pretty nice", so I installed it. The process went without a hitch, however the resolution now appears to be a bit messed up as you can see in the attached screenshot(the image doesn't scale properly with my res, windowed mode doesn't change anything either). In-game options don't have actual resolution configs, and I also tried digging around in py files inside the folders, hoping to find the file with resolution values to tweak manually: no luck, and I simply don't know what exactly to look for because I previously had no such problems in RenPy games.

Anyone knows how to fix it?

Possibly a setting in your display drivers, on NVidia cards its called 'Display Scaling' and is probably set to 'no scaling' on your system. Not sure where to find it in AMD cards and whats it called there.
Usually this setting is made to fix problems with programs/games (usually older ones or bad ports) which scale incorrectly or have other related problems.

PS: oh and because you play it the first time i'd suggest to not go for Rin's route, it's a good route just hella confusing if you play it the first time.

Doesn't seem to have that option, but thanks for the advice. I'll dig around with py files some more, maybe I'll get lucky and there's a display resolution value somewhere.

You are close there, thats the window for the 3D settings.
You need the Nvidia Control Panel like seen here:
taken from the following page, maybe helps if you can't open the panel:

You must be registered to see the links

(i don't take any responsibilities, this was just the first page with the fitting screenshot that i found)
Under 'Display' you can see the point 'Adjust desktop size and position' and thats where this setting is hidden.

Funnily enough, I found the solution by fiddling around with high DPI settings in properties. Should have tried this from the very beginning because it usually fixes resolution scaling hijinks in games. Completely slipped my mind.

Like caring about a game's story and how well a character is written? Because a lot of people on this forum act like having standards is a foreign concept.

I wasn't throwing shade at you. What I was trying to get at was that there really aren't any "strange things" about this game. You're more likely to find yourself being invested in the game's writing, which tends to be weak when it comes to adult content, than awakening to a new fetish.

Yeah the game clearly wasn't made to be a porn game. It's a nod to older Dating Sim type games which were a bit more involved in the emotional side of things rather than "hey which sexy slut do you want to rail this playthrough ?" like we get more of nowadays. So the few sex scenes flow more into the romantic sides than being fap material.

It's a nod to older Dating Sim type games which were a bit more involved in the emotional side of things rather than "hey which sexy slut do you want to rail this playthrough ?" like we get more of nowadays. So the few sex scenes flow more into the romantic sides than being fap material.

It follows the eroge vn situation type, where, yes there are sex scenes, but they aren’t the main attraction of the game.
Just like Fate, you aren’t going to play it for the sex scenes, those are there which are a nice addiction, but the real stuff is the story and characters.
Playing KS or other eroge games with heavy story telling only for the sex scenes it’s kinda of a waste.
The emotional journey you go through is the real main attraction, that culminates with an h scene only much later, and then you are totally invested.

I know im so late to the party, being i just learned of Katawa Shoujo recently, but iv never been so emotionally invested into a story as much as i have the last 2 days iv been playing. To me its by far something worth loving

Ah, one my first ero games. Liked the story, loved the girls... Though I found the mc unpleasantly angsty. And OH MY GOD, how long does it take you to realize Emi's father died in that car accident?! "I've met Emi's mother but not her father, and Emi doesn't like talking about her father OR the accident. Guess I'll get the truth out of her by comparing her secret to a grave! It's not like I'll be touching a major nerve or anything!"

I think Hisao clearly knew that but just wanted to become more than a simple boyfriend to Emi, and got too stubborn in the end or jealous that he couldn’t be more.
It’s a common theme I guess in KS bad endings where Hisao keeps believing he is the white knight in shining armor that will save the girls from their despair and instead he it’s rightfully dunked on.
Still, he gets a better character development than half of MCs on this site

Oh well, it’s always a good moment to return and play this gem.
For example I didn’t notice till last year that in Kenji’s ending You die just like he said in one of the routes; “But if I were to kill someone, I’d do it by throwing them off the roof making it look like an accident”

Like zARRR said, a lot of the routes have the heroine get mad at you for being invasive. I remember Hanako and Lilly being mad as shit at you if you try too hard to help them. Boundaries and independence are important. It's kinda alarming that most other VNs give the opposite message.

To be honest, Hanako has a part I never understood. Like, her best friend literally tells you to treat her like a stupid kid when she gets all depressed and reclusive. What ? How is that logically gonna help to not antagonise her ? That part never made any sense to me. And it's the right choice as well, the other leads to a bad end...
Hanako's by far my favorite. Treating her like that her my soul.
