You can spend your money however you want, I don't think anyone's arguing that you shouldn't spend money you earned.
It's the dev's work ethic, or lackthereof people are criticising. Which has nothing to do with you, and never will.
It's just a series of vague excuses, little to no progress, and further excuses on release of "substiantial update."
If he's not gonna do shit he should at least be honest about it, he's a pathological liar.
That's why he keeps making excuses despite people clearly not caring if he doesn't actually do work.

There's a lot of triple-A quality porn games that are finished.
Asking for EA and Ubisoft who basically only make pre-packaged personality-void "products" to make anything that isn't the same thing they've done 300 times already is a bit of a stretch and a terrible argument.
In fact it's really not an argument, you're arguing oil and water for the sake of it.

In that sense if you really wanna argue something totally different it's fair to say EA is a more trustworthy industry member than anyone on Patreon, they have goals, timelines, and overhead to answer to.
The only people Patreon devs have to answer to is people who'll defend anything they say and be completely unreasonable about the most inane things when someone reasonably criticises lack of progress.
