I recommend people read this, because I think it's the most likely explanation. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Because Nu Maya is a different character, she was a selfish shit to the point of ignoring Akira's feelings about her, and when bad things happened to her it ended up with me not liking Ami more than just feeling sad for Maya. I was batting for Nu Maya once she stopped being an oblivious idiot, and I still go back to that 0.46 scene hoping Sel doesn't screw that up.
I think she's just a lost opportunity to create a compelling character. Let's think about it:
I figure there are two possibilities - either Ami has her own shapeshifting entity on her side (less likely imo) or else Himawari was posing as Maya because Maya needed to be at that meeting for things to proceed properly/smoothly and Ami derailed that by preventing her from attending, and then ruined her course correction with her what's in the box moment.
I never liked Maya.
For some reason now i've got it stuck in my head that the resets are not supposed to happen and are only happening because Ami is doing something to break the World. All of the resets (since before the beginning of the game) happened because Ami either remembered shit and acted in order to create her perfect world or because she never forgot at all. It might not make much sense since she appear to only catch glimpses of "reality" from time to time before she suddenly "turned", but i dunno...
Well, I do agree that if you play the entire game in one go and stay out of the "fandom loop", as you say, then yes, it can make for a much better game. I read a lot of bad shit. And even with all that practice, if I had to wait month by month to read them, I just wouldn't be able to do it. When you can read it all in one go, even garbage can be dealt with. Not that LiL is that bad, but it's clearly better if you don't have to sit through update to update.
It might be relevant to remember that Ami's death triggered the end of the resets in "Times New Roman". Selebus said that it was the first canon ending to the game, and the world seems to be doing fine 10 years later (which can either help your theory or not, depending on how you look at it).
Thank you. This very accurately represents my feelings. Dumbass was told a million times not to go along with Ami, and now she's dead because of it.
One of the rules of this world is that names must be alliterative, therefore Himawari's existance just like Sekai's is world breaking and cannot be registered in the character menu, because Hima is supposed to have a name that starts with A following her Arakawa surname.
