But why disguise herself as Maya right now, what does doing that benefit the current situation? Hopefully we get to learn more in 0.53

Edit: At the end of the day, what one can do? Write a story that doesn't have the issues that bother you, I guess. Although obviously I could never write LiL, that's just not a story I personally have to tell as a writer. It's likely people will see issues in my writing as well, but hopefully not things that make less sense in retrospect or underwhelming reveals.

Because Nu Maya is a different character, she was a selfish shit to the point of ignoring Akira's feelings about her, and when bad things happened to her it ended up with me not liking Ami more than just feeling sad for Maya. I was batting for Nu Maya once she stopped being an oblivious idiot, and I still go back to that 0.46 scene hoping Sel doesn't screw that up.
Oh boy I hope nothing changes that this update

All that being said honestly, I love Nu Maya. She's funny and likeable to me, and I feel for her. I've not been following along for years though so I also don't have the level of attachment some might've had to the original Maya.
Now that chapter four is over(???) I just want to repeat something I've posted prior which I feel still holds true. I'm not reading any previews and I try and stay as out of the fandom loop as possible to be as blind as possible.
This chapter has the highest of highs with the best twists in the story, best development, and lore drops, but at the same time, it suffers from extremely slow pacing, even by LiL standards, and a lot of the updates just kind of meandered, especially in the first half of the chapter. Also, Akira is worse here than any of the other chapters by far; just kind of self-hating himself the whole time while also not doing anything to fix it, making me wonder if he actually hates his situation or is secretly, even to himself, enjoying it.

I figure there are two possibilities - either Ami has her own shapeshifting entity on her side (less likely imo) or else Himawari was posing as Maya because Maya needed to be at that meeting for things to proceed properly/smoothly and Ami derailed that by preventing her from attending, and then ruined her course correction with her what's in the box moment.
