I had this problem with a few games. Turned out my pc/laptop was to weak to make the animations smooth. That might be one possible problem you can have. But let's wait for the other users to give their tips

Is there a mod to skip the transitions? I tried the option in settings but it does nothing for these flashback sequence transitions.

I was waiting for that as well. But it's been more than two weeks now, so I might say fuck it and play the update regardless.

since I cant use old saves had to restart and it seems the Dev forgot to add a way to change the MC's name and its just default to none. Hope they see this and fix it or someone smarter than me can fix it in the script. I even looked at how to do it and what they have does not fit all the things I have found to fix it.

I changed the MC's name at the beginning of the game, don't remember where exactly..

You might have to start again and check for that exact place where it says to keep or change the MC's name... either that or reinstall the game from scratch.

I restarted it twice and it never popped up.. I will kill it and reinstall and see if that helps..

I get this screen when starting a new game. And there is an option to name the MC
