Well because the world of patreon funded games is an unwatched and unregulated mess. You have plenty of creators milking their patron, effectively being small time conmen.
The abandoned tag is to make people be wary of funding such people and also as a small "whip" to actually force creators to do something.
Personally I think its great. I know people in this thread ADORE the dev, but from a certain point, even here some doubt can be found. How much did you actually see from the new update? I followed a game where a dev kept posting "progress bars", turned out it was all bs.
Personally I do not think that naughy road is a scammer, but the abandoned tag system is only a plus for the health of porn game "market". Also I am not sure about others, but at least having some form of deadline helps with time management. Definitely does for me, the bigger the time frame you have, the higher the chance you waste time.
Yep, this is something I noticed too in a past playthrough. I wasn't too thrilled either, since Brooke is one of my favorite characters in any VNs period.
Well, since this game is focused on "familial shenanigans", this is probably very intentional. I still hope for Brooke to have an ending, if not idyllic, at least satisfactory. Let's wait and see!
Really, I understand the sentiment. I also understand why there is a need of an "abandoned" tag in F95. At the same time, I don't think there is a catch-all solution for marking a project as abandoned, especially in absolute terms (the "x months since" model) - the ideal way should be a per-project basis, but it leads to another quagmire ("who watches the watcher" and so on).
The only solution, to me, is: if someone is interested in a project, he should simply follow the "news", stay updated, and form his own informed conclusion. Trying to convince others of your own views about development times and work ethics is mostly a waste of time and leads only to bandwagoning, infinite bickering and witch hunts (please note: this is true for both supporters or loathers). This is especially true in a relatively new and burgeoning sector like Patreon, which by its nature shortens the distance between developers and patrons - with all the good and bad this entails.
Of course, blatant lies on both "sides" - by the author, or by anyone else about the author - should be highlighted and discussed. But since it is not the case of naughtyroad, who has always been crystal clear about his intentions and proceedings, this is a different issue altogether.

I used to support this authr religiously, but stopped at the end of the last year. I know that they post short essays but wasn't sure if they had posted one recently as they were interesting to read.

This isn't a government owned entity - there is no free speech in a privately owned website. You are allowed to post here and if you violate the rules, you can see your post moderated, removed, or yourself banned.
Also, funny how people use "free speech" when they want to say something but take offense when hearing someone else expressing themselves.
Anyway - all of this could have been avoided had you simply tried first, instead of just asking someone else to do the work for you. This whole conversation started because you couldn't take 1 minute.

We’ve discussed this over and over again. It’s taking a bit longer than you and a bunch of other people expected and that thread is going to be a bit of cesspool until the update arrives. More and more vultures are going to descend proclaiming the project dead and try to feast upon its carcass. You know you don’t do well in that type of environment.”
“Cess Poo Poo” Another voice chimed in.
“Sorry?” I said looking down at my feet only to realize I couldn’t see them--just my oblong belly protruding from my midsection.
“Alright. What’s done is done.” Self huffed. “You’ve read something that‘s troubling you. Let’s have it. Spit it out.”
“Abandoned….Support….Conman….” Hissed a chorus of new voices.
“Does Mr. NR get…um…money every time someone posts in this thread?” I sheepishly asked.
“What…why…” My head was visibly vibrating. “No. Why would you…I mean I don’t believe so….NO! Of course not.” (So that’s what a “scrunched confused constipated expression” looks like.)
“Hard Poo Poo” Grunted another voice.
“Does F95 give money to Mr. NR?” I continued.
“Uh…” Exasperated Self began, “Look. I honestly don’t know how all this works, but my limited understanding is absolutely not. If anything Mr. NR would give the site money as a donation. It’s a Pirate site. People post developers game here so others can download it for free.”
“So…Mr. NR gives them money to steal his game?” Mushroom clouds were forming. “Never mind! I can feel my ears bleeding. Forget I asked.” I begged.
“This is not a test. Please seek shelter immediately.” An oddly calm but loud but far-off voice advised.
“That’s…what’s…bothering you?” Self asked (head still vibrating), knowing that it wasn’t and trying to brace for whatever would come next.
“Abandoned….Support….Conman….” The vultures screeched.
“Well I think some people want the game to be labeled Abandoned...And other game developers use progress bars but they really aren’t progressing… And Mr. NR hasn’t proved he’s updating...And I guess we need the Abandoned tag so we can stop supporting him…Only we’re not supporting him monetarily on this site…So if a game gets marked as Abandoned here I should not support it…Even though I’m already not supporting it…So should I then NOT not support it….Which means I should support it even if its…Ouch!” Naughty voice bit my ear and pulled my hair forcing my head back hard and whispered.
“Nooooo…Really…That’s how he’s supported here?”
Self’s head was a blur. “Do you ever take a breath? Gawd. I know I shouldn’t ask, but what is Naughty voice telling you now?”
“Um…apparently thread members take turns….um….firmly but gently….um….cupping Mr. NR’s testicles while he works. Literally supporting him.

If they like the game/developer they then go to other sites to monetarily support game/developer. I’m of a mind that if a game has been abandoned there’s no point in supporting it. If the developer is a conman, they aren’t going to post on their pay sites that it’s abandoned so there is some small value to having a site like this post that it’s been abandoned, BUT none of that is applicable here with LoML and Mr. NR. I stammered on “I mean…Um…well about that…I kinda did but kinda didn’t. Just what are the actual rules on Pinkie Swearing? Are they rules or more like guidelines? Because I didn’t actually use my pinkie to…”
Self reached out a grabbed me by the shirt collar. “Didn’t use your pinkie. It’s Pinkie Swearing. With Denise. With Macy. Dear Gawd man…what else could you have possibly used. Anatomically, what’s as small as… your…pink...ie…Oh...” His face was still red but an entirely different shade. “Those poor poor girls…Im so so so so sorry Mr. NR…”

In the game\saves subdirectory of the directory where you unzipped the Ren'Py to.
Also in %appdata%\RenPy\
Ah, I never bother unzipping the archive, it runs just fine from it.
NM I found where it was, didn't know the damn appdata map was a hidden map. Thanks.

I have no doubts about the developer of this game; it's one of my favorite games here, so please don't take offense. However, I believe that the 18-month rule is fair and should be applied to all developers.
There was indeed a developer who, for several months (or years?), teased his upcoming (fictional) update by using small zoomed-in portions of existing images.
How can we know that the developer isn't just filling in little squares on a PSD to show progress? Who knows if they are really working? So, I understand the 18-month rule without a game update despite being active on Patreon or the forum.
There have been so many developers who have done this in the past. I could mention names, but I think you know them as well as I do.
That's why for me it's fair.

I have to differ.
I see it as a system trying to punish developers who put more work into their updates (such as having more content) because of a few bad apples.
At this point, I feel those scammers are irrelevant to what some of these developers are doing in trying to put out a quality product.
I said before, I feel a better way to approach this is to look at the developer's history. If they make a habit of longer development cycles, leave it alone.
