Paula game is in VX Ace which is an infinitely better engine than the default VX the main game is made in.
Try moving the folder to the drive root. Some old games fall apart if the path to the game folder has characters it doesn't expect.
There are days when the painter is playing outside his house, enter his room in one of those days and examine the closet.

Still no good. I extract it again with 7-zip and Nanazip but same error (but no mojibake characters changes to japanese if I use the locale emulator)

I was 9 hours into the game when I learned that the sturdy log you buy like 15 minutes in is actually useful and not just a joke item. Who the hell checks windows in RPGM games?
Also, apparently the shovel is also useful...if you buy it after already clearing out the path so the game doesn't force you into thrashing it. That one is pretty damn rude of the game, actually. (apparently the broken version still works, my bad)

Yeah, early tsukinomizu games always have these little things that you can easily miss. Their newer games don't do that anymore though.

I lowered my guard too much after seeing how much better Lilim Union was than their other VX games.
Although I feel like Lady Knight Saga was less about "missable things" and more "you're too focused on not getting 20th random encounter to pay attention to anything". Having obscure nonsense was a Dungeon Chronicles gimmick.
