In my limited understanding of how it goes in porn games, each species usually follows a stereotype.

Sheep anthros are usually seen as meek and soft and that makes them stand out as caring, innocent and affectionate beings. Their fluffy wool makes them cushy and cuddly, which are traits usually associated with comfort. A spa is supposed to be a place of relaxation and comfort, like being wrapped in a warm, fluffy cloud (like wool).

In reality, a sheep's wool is rarely clean so you wouldn't want to touch it all that much. Different species have different types of wool, some softer than others. Some people actually dislike touching them, saying it's icky. The wool on a sheep has a different feel to it from the wool of your clothes; it has been cleaned and treated to be worn.

But this is videogame logic.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't played the new version yet. I'm just making assumptions on what was Inno's logic for choosing a sheep.

The "icky" feel of raw wool is due to a waxy substance called lanolin that permeates it. It's often used in skin moisturisers. It also makes raw wool quite waterproof. Outer garments made of raw wool have been used in many cultures for just this property. It's also generally only the outer layer of wool that's dirty. The lanolin and the sheer density of the wool keep the inner layers relatively clean. And there aren't different "species" of sheep: "sheep" is the species. You're talking about subspecies or breeds.

There is, in addition, a completely innocent and non-sexual reason that I know all of that.

Personally, I could see a sheep-morph running a beauty parlour. Perhaps with a side-business in gentle sissification/bimbofication? Think frills and ribbons: a nursery-rhyme shepherdess. Maybe not-so-gentle if the business is actually owned by a pack of dominant wolves (or corrupt sheepdogs) ready to exploit the vulnerabilities of the helpless sluts the business gives them access to.

And maybe also ready to accept a new business partner, freshly arrived from Dominion with money to burn.

How does that stack up against "another spa" as an idea?

Although it's hard to divinate dev's line of thinking, I'd wager it was like this:
Elis and it's area are supposed to be populated by rural species. So, ideally, every one of them should be represented in some sort of way. Spa was added and a sheep was thrown in charge of the spa for diversity sake.
Why not make sheep to be in charge of some weaving enterprise? Because fuck you and the concussion you get by slipping on wet wool. Or because weaving mill sounds less lewd than a spa. Or because sheep in this universe do not shed fur. Who knows?

Either that or some Patron/Moderator that has sunk a ton of time and cash into Inno's Patreon and Discord have finally had their self-insert/personal request added.

I think the Dominion Express might benefit from the option to become an investor too. It just strikes me that a good way to handle niche fetishes (whether that be sissification or taking horse cock like a good little filly or whatever) in a game like this is to include a way for people not into that fetish to engage with the content without participating.

So, someone who finds that working for the Dominion Express is not to their personal taste might still like a business partnership with Natalya (perhaps with an option to make her your little filly).

Honestly, if the whole thing was run by a pig and went with mud bath idea over generic spa, that would have been a really cool move. Mud baths are already associated with spas and that would have totally worked out. It's not just the cliche onsen or sauna version of a 'spa' that people in think of.

On the occasion where they do show up, it's usually to represent your stereotypical ugly, fat, slob dude with rapist tendencies (or a murderer). Basically, "pigs" in literal and figurative sense. Females exists but are rare.

Their wilder cousins, boars, are usually seen in a more positive light in gay furry games. Big, hairy, masculine dudes with a higher volume of muscle/fat in them (aka the "bear" body). Also, boars have been recognized as symbols of virility since times immemorial. Suines can have orgasms that last up to 30 mins.

Honestly, I be completely fine with that.

I actually like suine anthros and wish they were given the spotlight more often, something different and positive to off-set all the bad rep that follows them. Pigs in general tend to pretty smart (one the smartest animals in a farm, actually) and make pretty tight knit social/familial bonds with each other.

I mean, I know that. But that's also even more boring than the shit we're saying is boring. And honestly, I don't think almost anyone cares about what's in the update. We're mostly talking about what would be more interesting at this point rather than even bothering thinking about this boring shit. Hell, I'd be surprised if more than a couple people even tried it. There's really not a lot there. If it was four well written, custom sex scenes then maybe, but like... nah. 15 minutes of content isn't worth the download.

I'm always amazed at how much support this game has vs the amount of work done every update. Looks like the "dev" spends like one weekend a month doing some code to keep up the charade she is still working on it. A lot of it is volunteer too , right? Like she gets other suckers to do the programming for her for free?

The amount contributed by modders varies each release. Sometimes it's half the update, other times it's just a small thing or two. I'm personally looking forward to the day Inno adds the 3 main pillars of modding; NPCs, sex scenes and locations. Then modders will finally be able to add the bread and butter of the game.
