In my opinion, the dev made a severe mistake when starting OI. Limitless was still relatively early in story developement, so already starting a second project back then made him seem overambitious.
Also, seriously, OI was doomed to get nuked from orbit due to issues that are covered by rule 7, even before the recent crackdowns by patreon. Anouncing to put even temporal developement focus on OI, instead of continuing this game's story and the comparatively tame taboos it has, did not make any sense to me back then.
And was putting a death mark on this game.

Dropping an update would just remove the abandoned tag. The dev saying he can't work on it for a time because he's busy with real life means it should have the Onhold tag

Some games get deboosted by mod and staff if the devs get caught doing shady shit, then they show up as last update 2 years ago

Technically, if a dev has met the requirements to not have it marked abandoned, they could request the onhold tag just before the 18 months were up. That would then give them another 6 months, making it 2 years since their last update and still have the onhold tag.

What Milton said above. OR..... nobody really bothered to hit the report button to have them marked as abandoned, not like the mods and staff are stalking ALL the threads all the time. I believe someone did hit it in the case of this one, hence it was switched over to abandoned (or it was directly marked abandoned? I don't remember for sure; his other game was marked on hold and then eventually marked abandoned)

You should do more research before posting.

Lets take the very last one that says "Onhold", the thread was updated: Thread Updated: 2025-05-22
So that tells me there is something wrong maybe.
It says 2 years but the date of last updated says 5/22/25.

None that are marked "Onhold" at this time have gone over 24 months since last update.
Like other says dev could have waited the near 18 months then ask for it to be put on hold for another 6 months.
Only the mods know when it went on hold and they should be watching for the 6 month mark.

i´m kinda starting to understand the frustration. Cr8tive M3dia, last post on Sep 27th, last seen Yesterday 7pm... Still no update on any of the games. Don´t care if the update is "still working on the update" tbh.
SOMETHING is better than nothing at all.

because every modification to any thread listing is a moderator action. if they are pulled to the front of sam/latest_alpha/, it is because a mod did it. so is adding or removing flags. if you come accross a game thats clearly dead, you can report it and it'll get a feared thread-update.
