AFAIK There was a lot of posts about the walkthrough not being accurate anymore, some times ago. And I don't remember reading anything about it being fixed ... So I guess you'll have to try without it

I don't have a macbook so I have no experience with this but can't you just run the windows version in Wine?

Couldn't tell you, sorry. I find such things a bit distasteful personally, so I saved her as well and never looked back. Only reason I know it's a thing is that we have talked about it in here before. I don't think there is a lot, as that's not the focus of the game, but there might be a couple or more. I do know that it does make romancing her after that a bit more difficult.

On the afternoon of day 23 you were supposed to talk with Nell at the stables. If you missed that then you won't have the option to search the upper training ground. Just go to the stables and talk with her she will mention finding something. Then you will have the missing option.
If the discussion about her finding a finger bone doesn't trigger then you need to visit the crone and then visit Nell.
