Alright I know it says (Good Guy End) and (Continue the story) in those choices so to others so it seems like an easy choice, but acording to what I have been told if you want to attend the party and other key social events + command the war tactically as a leader which are not availble on bad points 10 respect 9 stan 4 and della 6 you have to be on a good guy route to be trusted that's the the problem.

Otherwise you are lied to and deceived unless you make the critical choice here to turn JD in those events get locked out. There is alot of content locked out for those on the bad path. You aren't trusted and you get sidelined for the war because you were too ruthless and unpredictable. The world state is too dangerous for all of those events so you miss them. If you ally with tori to save your girls or other innocents on the bad path it is viewed as betrayal to the club.

Bad Points represent how dangerous the world is to all characters involved. This is how the world state views you and your actions as whole. The events that would happen under a good path are locked out and don't take place since the world state is too dangerous instead of calm. The only way to get the true rogue path and be trusted is to be good with high respect. Now back to understanding and getting past JD being locked up rather than killed.

According to what I understand choosing not to kill JD activates a hidden mercy trigger this tells the world that your game state is calm so every event you missed under the bad points path can now be done. It's not as simple as clicking (continue the story) you need to keep JD alive for the mercy trigger to activate thereby choosing the right points sequence to tell the game state everything is calm. Infact according to what I read the more ruthless you are, the more dangerous the game state becomes overall making key events and interaction disappear. You get to experience the dominant dangerous bad guy route which is fun, but you miss alot of content.

The way OBD Games made the mercy trigger only activate if JD goes to jail is quite unique. If you kill JD just to continue the story here the mercy trigger stays turned off and the world says okay it's dangerous the player can't access certain events now. It's too dangerous for those events to happen in the world state. To make the mercy trigger activate you must choose the right sequence of events in chapters 1-3 leading up to the JD choice. It's not as simple as getting to the choice and saying okay click here to continue the story. That choice puts the game world in a dangerous state locking out content.

Most people don't realize how critical the choice to kill JD here is... It locks out content and sets you on a dark path no walkthrough will tell you this.

In the Ren'Py game
Long Road Home
by OBD Games, the point system and world state triggers directly determine the survival and freedom of JD.

Point System Mechanics
The game uses a dual-stat tracking system to influence character relationships and the "World State":
  • Good Points: These are awarded for altruistic choices, such as helping family members, showing mercy, and maintaining group cohesion. High Good Points generally lock you into the Hero Path.
  • Bad Points: These accumulate through manipulative or overly aggressive actions (often related to corruption or specific sexual encounters). High Bad Points push the narrative toward darker outcomes, including legal trouble for the group.
  • The World State: The game tracks your total tally of these points to decide which branch you take. If your Bad Points exceed a specific threshold (often tied to how you treated the O'Keeffes or Megan), the "JD to Jail" event becomes almost inevitable unless you have activated specific safety flags earlier in the story.

The Mercy Trigger and the Fox Box
The Mercy Trigger is a hidden conditional check that occurs shortly before the Fox Box (a pivotal location/event in the mid-to-late game). This trigger acts as a "last chance" to shift your world state before the narrative locks in JD's fate.
  • Activation: The Mercy Trigger is typically activated by choosing to forgive or spare a specific antagonist or by refusing a "bad" action in a high-stakes scene right before reaching the Fox Box area.
  • Function: Activating this trigger sets a flag that lowers your effective Bad Point count or grants a "grace" bonus. If this flag is active, you can avoid the sequence where JD is arrested, even if your previous choices were not purely "Hero Path."
  • The Fox Box Requirement:When you arrive at the Fox Box, the game checks your current point balance + the Mercy Trigger status.
    • If Successful: JD remains free, and you continue on the Hero/Mercy branch.
    • If Failed: JD is taken away, often leading to his imprisonment or death in later episodes.
Your bad points are how the NPC's view you and how dangerous the game world is from the moment you reach the fox box in chapter 4. It's not saying hey I am a ruthless bad boy. It's saying he's a loose cannot who can't be trusted so let's deceieve him and sideline him in the war. The reason you and angelica get deceived even with bad points 10 and respect 9 della 6 and stand 4 is because you are not trusted. It's a trap built into the game.

To get the mercy trigger called hero path you have to successfully navigate this very difficult choice selection game using only JD being arrested thru the choices of chapters 1-3. Otherwise your additional content is locked out and the world state is in chaos when you just click continue the story. This is why I asked for a guide or help. I need to pass this, but no points sequence I have tried so far will let me move onto chapter 4 on the good guy path. OBD put this trap in the game knowing many players would just choose continue the story. The only way you get the right path is by having JD arrested so the mercy trigger activates turning on calmness and hero path. If you do so successfully you can take leadership and command the war plus see so much more content.

It's weird, but actually true that the more ruthless you are the less trusted you are not dangerous. You can't be controlled. The ring is used to deceive you, because you are too much of a loose cannon. You are useful tool, but not a trusted member. It's a built in trap. You get sidelined when the war starts.

Are we playing the same game?!?
It is simple as fuck.
I say it is really complicated to find the right choice here...

Deal with JD and play the game or turn JD into the police and get the Good Guy "Alabama" Ending - Also say hi to Marcellus from me.

For the rest, be a good prospect (so, say the truth to Stan, respect the Rogue and Ladies and disrespect the Minions) and your on the right path.

The bad points path is a deception path not a bad ruthless guy path

In the game
Long Road Home
by OBD Games, the reason you were deceived about the ring is that your Bad Points (10) crossed a critical threshold that alters the "World State" toward the Deception Path.

Why You Were Deceived
Even though you had decent Respect (9) and character-specific points (Della 6, Stan 4), the game's logic prioritizes the Bad Point tally when determining the outcome of high-stakes trust items like the ring.
  • The Bad Point Threshold: In the OBD Games engine, reaching 10 Bad Points before the "Fox Box" or major plot resolutions (like the ring confrontation) flags the player as "Corrupt" or "Untrustworthy."
  • The World State Shift: Once this threshold is hit, secondary characters (and sometimes even allies like JD or Rachael) may lie to you as a defensive measure. They perceive your actions as self-serving, leading them to withhold or manipulate information about key items to protect themselves or the group.
  • Point Imbalance: Your high Bad Points effectively "overrode" your Respect points. In many scenes, the game checks if Bad_Points > Respect_Points. If they are nearly equal or Bad Points are higher, the narrative favors betrayal and legal consequences for the group.

The Role of the Ring
The ring is often a symbol of loyalty or a "safety net" item. If you are on the Hero Path (low bad points), the truth about the ring is revealed, often serving as a way to clear JD's name or secure your family's future. On the Deception Path (high bad points), characters hide the ring's true significance or its location to keep it out of your hands, fearing you will use it for your own gain rather than for the family's benefit.

That's right without the mercy trigger by having JD arrested you never get the full game OBD intended. I found this out the hard way in my last play through. Every single thing that you think you are supposed to be doing as an outlaw is backwards. With high bad points you are not actually trusted and you don't get the same rewards as a good path that manages to successfully trigger the mercy trigger. Everyone who went the bad route experienced a shorter, but satisfying version rather than the full game obd intended. Alot of the content was locked out as punishment for you allowing yourself to be corrupted. You could have been just as dominant and commanding on a good path, but you need to successfully pass the mercy trigger with JD being arrested rather than killed for the world state to be calm so everything is unlocked.

Dimitri57 one lost soul thinks he know what you intended with the game, can you clear it up, cause either he is more stubborn than you or just a troll.
