Is it just me or are there like no choices outside of a general "Hey are you interested in this LI?". The MC also seems to want to go after girls on his own, has me a little worried about the level of player agency in this. It feels very, very kinetic.
The decisions in this episode are mostly just to decide if you're interested in the specific girls, that is correct. Decisions in the future will provide more unique conversation routes since I know as the programmer you've already "picked" the girls for content.

At the end of the day you can have more choice and less content because it takes longer to develop and becomes harder to maintain or you can have less and more meaningful choices and quicker content.

It's a delicate balancing act, and if I mess it up I'll end up spending dozens of hours creating content that only a tiny percentage of the players will see.

This also leads back to the debate about how much personality I give the MC vs how much I leave to the player. Different strokes for different folks.

I'm interested to see what other people say about this.

...

The girls are still happy, let's have them be happy for a bit.

...
Yes please, let's keep them happy. I don't particularly want anything bad to happen to the characters at this point.

I think it's going to be traumatizing enough if any of them saw their dorm mate get sucked into the pool of blood there as it is. I'm not generally a fan of horror but I like these characters enough that I'm going to stick with this for a while. Hoping that we can act as a shield or somehow save the girls from the evil things. I will have to wait and see how things go.

Side tangent: Really good work on the Perfume dance animation sequence. That was fun to watch.

I'm not here to tell you how to make your game, it was just an observation. There is a reason I personally don't "read" kinetic novels. I don't get any enjoyment out of just watching the whole thing play out as it's "supposed to". Especially if it leads to seeing the MC sleep with whoever whether I care for them or not.

Also if this first part is just to see who the player is interested in going forward does that mean you are cut off of characters already this early in the game? I mean you have no real chance to even get to know them, it would just be "you're cute, lets fuck".

Naw you can turn them on or off a few times. I just wanted to give people with strong feelings a chance early on.

This game is architected so that you do not miss any content by hitting the skip button. I will never purposely allow people to miss content by accidentally viewing a different act. I put content in the game, and I want people to view it.

I want to be very clear about this. I hate sandboxes as well. Anything I throw into mine will not be grindy or boring.

I will be adding a hint system for the next patch however. It will cover scenarios where you have to view one girl's act to unblock another. It will be very simple and straight forward and blend into the current UI.
I was speaking more so in a general sense, but that is good to hear. I usually wait a bit for a game to have more meat to it before I give it a go, so I haven't played this one yet, but I do plan on it. Just looking through comments to get the general feel for the people who gave it a try thought.

I find it amusing that Taka's number one personality trait is a love of tips, despite the fact that tipping culture is not a thing in Japan and in fact, generally found to be pretty rude and insulting.

True, but she's not an adult, she seems to be a financially struggling college student. Also while I'm not 100% sure on this, I get the impression she is neurodivergent, or something in that realm - so I would say it's plausible that she might not be in line with typical customs/behaviors.

Sure, but she's not the owner, having a tip jar out would be considered rude without her even mentioning tips and for the owner to allow one to be put there would be wildly out of the norm, and given that Japanese culture is all about not rocking the boat then the chances of the owner allowing that is basically non existent. If this were at all realistic, i'd expect that business to fail as it would develop a bad reputation for being transgressive and rude.

I don't make the rules, the game can have whatever the dev wants in it, i just found it amusing cause it's a funny inversion of american culture, it'd be like having an MC who refuses to tip anyone in a US setting and everyone thinking it's totally A-ok for him to have that attitude... it would be amusingly discordant, you'd expect him to be called out for it.

So, hit the content wall, what was that about having to wait a year? Boo. I liked it, pretty good game for a first release, i'm looking forward to more, only thing i didn't enjoy was the cringey random Japanese phrases thrown around, came across as very basement dwelling otaku, so not funny, and also not fun cause i didn't understand 90% of them and had to keep stopping to google wtf was being said. Other than that, very nice experience and if that stuff sticks around i'll just live with it cause the rest of the game is good.

Man this game was so good. I don't think I ever enjoyed a game on this site as much as this one and I played most of the popular ones. I honestly care more about the MC, girls, animations and story than the rest of the nsfw stuff. I was really sad, when I got to the ending of chapter 1. I would even write a review, if I knew how. I clicked on " review ", but saw nothing about making my own when I did. Anyway, I became a Patron to a few games on here before, I never stayed. This one though, if it could keep the Dev Team motivated enough to not abandon it, I would have no problem staying a loyal patron. Also no shade to the guy above, but I actually enjoyed the Japanese phrases. I also only knew a few of them myself, (I'm an anime casual) it made the game feel like it had it's own personality. Small details like that, made a difference for me. Specially how Haya says: " Righto! ". I loved it man.

To clear that up - that was the dev acknowledging that the delay between when the prototype was showcased, to the first actual release, was too long. They dropped a very tantalizing tech demo a year ago, and some of us were dying waiting for the actual game to launch after that. The dev has discussed it in this thread before, and realizes they should have waited until having a better handle on the whole workflow before releasing the demo. I think the whole point of the scene you are referencing, was to kind of do a mea culpa / tongue-in-cheek acknowledge this mistake, and assure us things are straightened out now. In other words, it should not be so long for the next release to come out.

To leave a review go to the very top of this page, in the top right you will see red stars showing the current rating and under that it says how many reviews have been left for the game - you click on the stars to initiate a review. (If you want to leave a 5-star rating for example, click the star all the way to the right.) This will pop up a box where you can type in your review.

I agree about the Japanese phrases, I think it gives the game character and I like it. I did not understand what some of them meant initially but after seeing them used in context a few times I started to pick up the meaning - sort of how you learn a language in real life. Over time it absolutely became part of the 'charm' aspect of the game.

Promising game. Recommended to some russian forums. Do you mind your vn being translated to other languages? I bridged that idea to some translator groups, but I doubt they will work on this untill it becomes popular enough, so here is hoping. I rarely use that word, but sometimes dialogue between characters are "cringe". It sometimes feels embarassing to read some of the lines of characters, if it is on purpose, then good job, if not then not a really big deal for the beginning. Overall pretty good so far

Great job with the game so far. It's always a bittersweet feeling to play a new VN you really enjoy, only to see that it literally just updated and now you have to wait for the next update :ROFLMAO:

I echo what many others have said - great job with the renders, the story, characters, etc. Beyond this though, I hope you can continue as a dev to with the effort on taking feedback without compromising your story. The 0.1 poll on your Patreon is a great idea, as is your implementation on the sandbox, but I'm glad you also have told people to just not play the game if they don't like your planned content. Make what you want to make, because that's where the quality will come from.

Keep it up, hopefully the effort you put into learning KK over the last year means the updates come faster!

(also please don't let success turn you into a cunt like the developer of That Other Game)

The decisions in this episode are mostly just to decide if you're interested in the specific girls, that is correct. Decisions in the future will provide more unique conversation routes since I know as the programmer you've already "picked" the girls for content.
Can we decide that we aren't romantically interested in a LI and prevent evil things from happening to her?

It seems like in later versions you can skip over the horror aspect but not "the sad". That leads me to believe a lot of the LI's arcs will be overly depressing in some way. If that's the case I'll probably skip this one personally. I have enough drama in my own life and if a game is going to focus on that then it's not for me. Not the end of the world, plenty of other games to look in to.

Depends what lines you mean are cringe. I'm sure I've dropped the ball in a couple spots.

I do not care if people translate it.

I'm not a big fan of sad stories. But, as far as I know, this isn't a sad story, it's a story with sad parts. I don't mind if in the game exists scenes where the LI's problems are shown and where the sadness that this entails is seen. What I don't like are sad stories in which the characters tend to become more and more desperate and there is no bright ending anywhere. But I suspect that if we decide to help the LIs there will be none of that.

In any case, for now I'm not interested in two LIs, but I also don't want that evil things happen to them.

EDIT:

I find that there are options that lead to the friendship path, to the romance path and I guess that if we aren't on any of them, there is a darker path.
