This thread suffers a lot when it comes to character names :ROFLMAO:.

We should have a real name list in the front page, like Bastion, Pimp, Bozo....

But no one is disputing that, Lacey is an hypocritical narcissist, I don't know why you are so combative about it.
Maybe the prof has been too good in creating a compelling story and made emotions run high ;).

I can only say that I am glad that our judicial system understood and implemented the concept of extenuating circumstances, Lacey does apply for some, she is a VERY damaged person who made, as you correctly stated, a great number of wrong choices, the worst among all would be the one to abandon MC.

If you check the thread, no one or almost no one is creating justifications for her, and those who do definitely can do so because her actions did not touch their personal life (with this being a fictional tale and all).
In fact, most people find the concept of forgiveness as a tall tale in this story, as it would be a total lack of self respect by MC, but acceptance and understanding are on the table.

I feel you are also missing the point of Lacey trying to be accountable of her actions, old and new, which should be taken into consideration while drafting her ccharacter profile.

As for MC...he is a deeply damaged person too, granted, I absolutely despise how he's been written, in fact he is just a step under Mia in my book.
But he is a selfless and altruistic victim, and going too hard on him without considering his circumstances is a bit dense on our part.

My main gripe is how he is written as a strong protector while actually being the complete opposite, putting Lacey in danger simply because he either doesn't act, is not sincere OR puts the needs of others above hers (looking at you Isaac).

That said, I understand your frustration, but if you let that pass for a moment and try to read between the lines you will find much more nuance and enjoyment of this novel.

Lets see what act 3 brings to the table, I am waiting to see if we will get more clarity on Lacey's past, which is riddled with half truths and her painting herself as the victim, hopefully her character arc will make her better in that regard and maybe MC will start being a stronger lead.

Remember we still don't know what plot MC has in the no fun route, the dialogue was not particurlarly well meaning and hopefully it would not become a cuck route (which makes MC lose GG points btw).

But now you made me curious, what are your thoughts about the rest of the cast?
Nobody contests this. The issue was with this being like every other NTR game out there, it isn't.

While you are correct in your general assessment in several things, as DeviantFan pointed out, there are extenuating circumstances in this that at the very least give some reasonable means to the characters being as they are.

Like was said, nobody defends Lacey really, she is a horrible selfish person who personally made decisions to harm the MC and continued to do so because... she chose to. She really can't be forgiven to be honest, but to an extent... there is some reasonable means to her progression regardless if she "chose" such or not. Think of this as more of a case study on NTR behaviors. LOL

The MC has some serious issues. At times he comes off strong, determined, intelligent and controlled, but then there are oddities in his character that changes to ridiculous insecure, self blaming, etc... allowing him to be bullied by the FC and the others.

It has been said "Everybody loves the MC, but nobody cares about him" and I think this is a correct assessment when you look at the various actions of the people in the story.

You should take the time to read though this thread as all of your points have been brought up and mulled over to which you will see, few will object to.

When all is said and done though, there are some legitimate reasonings as to why the MC acts as he does, why the FC is the way she is, etc... The real oddities are some of the other characters (Mia, "The Pimp" has no redeeming or understandable qualities, she is evil to the core and continues to be all the while the stupid MC treats her like a friend? WTF?) that make no sense.

The story is far from perfect and has various holes, flaws, and inconsistencies with some of the characters, but it is a pretty good story none the less. It has the components of an NTR story, but this isn't the normal NTR story and the characters while behaving at times in those ways, aren't that "typical" NTR slop.
I've always said NTR is fun.
I'll offer another version, a standard NTR template.
Mental health issues don't make a person an idiot. The hypocritical slut loves to fuck, fuck a lot. She got married and very quickly became bored. A strategic PLAN was born: we need to create conditions so that the brainless cuckold himself would allow and offer her to fuck other dicks. We need to break the stupid husband's mind. Every act of the play is planned in advance, all stages will be heavily seasoned with a huge amount of lies about love. We need to maintain the illusion that "the wife loves her husband." I won't go into detail about all the manipulation methods.
Act One: Informing the stupid husband in measured doses about the hypocritical whore's past. This is accompanied by scenes of crying, remorse, and apologies. Sex for reconciliation is classic manipulation.
Act two: demonstrative and cynical betrayal of her husband, with the planned participation of a support group for the brainless and spineless cuckold. Forcing a brainless cuckold to have sex with other whores. A monkey must be trained and the spineless slug accustomed to the presence of other people in a couple's sex life. The stupid monkey is given a banana (free cheese in a mousetrap), he is ALLOWED to fuck other whores. At this initial stage, only women are included; no men... yet.
Act three, the most important: convince the monkey that he himself, of his own free will and initiative, will offer to fuck the hypocritical whore with other cocks. Perhaps the whore will refuse several times (the image of a faithful wife), but the monkey must "convince" the hypocritical whore to fuck with other cocks.
Act four: the brainless and spineless cuckold rejoices at having "convinced" the whore to fuck with other cocks. He believes it is his desire and his initiative. I'm sure we'll all see it soon.
Every step of the hypocritical whore is thought out in advance: feigned regret, hypocritical apology, imitation of love.
Have fun, NTR is fun.
P.S. There is no need to talk about love, there is not even a hint of it in this story.

Do you guys think we progress the bimbo slut path in chapter 3 about tits enhancement? Or maybe it's to early?
Gonna be too early

Also think Jamie is going to get new tits before Lacey
Which is a crime against humanity Lacey needs some implants asap, plus I know breast enhancements should be gradual, but this is a VN and Jamie deserved some G cups pronto.

Maybe a hook for it at the end of act 3?

I am extremely glad the novel does not touch or will not devolve in the sexual inadequacy fetish slop you just prompted ;)

I am not interested in a kink serving story though. My interest in NTR (or more specifically Neotrare) is the love to loss to resolution story, similar to the traditional fallen hero and recovery stories.

Few authors give this honest attention due to serving the focus you describe which is entirely missing the point of the story.

I guess I'm a lot less critical of the protagonists than most of you. For me the horrible behaviour of Lacey, Mia and the MC is plausible without them being horrible people.

From age 6 to 19 Lacey and the MC were entirely co-dependent during their formative years and their adult personalities grew out of this.

MC and his empathy for others, and his willingness to stay with Lacey as long as there was a remotely plausible explanation for anything that happened.

Lacey and her "narcissism", being either abused or taken care of without having to, or being capable of, supporting others.

Mia with her terror of sex with males from age 15 could plausibly (to me) try to solve her own issues by trying to use someone else to vicariously experience sex with males and therefore heal herself.

Lacey's and Mia's actions were not healthy in any way, shape or form but they now recognise this, feel guilt and are trying to do better and focus on the needs of others, most particularly the MC of course. Mia through her love of the MC, Lacey through therapy and experience. Act 3 is called "Learning to let go" so that speaks to the ongoing mental health recovery of the MC.

The story is obviously turned up to 11 for dramatic effect, just like most movies or books, and in real life this story could never happen - I doubt the authorities would go unaware of Lacey's abuse for 13 years; Lacey's college videos would be all over the internet porn sites (in dedicated sections no doubt) and she would never be able to get a "normal"/office job; Barty et al could find any three other girls to start their porn empire a lot more easily, etc, etc.

I love these characters, warts and all. I love the story with all the OTT setbacks and the following epiphanies and the constant positive background of mental health recovery and improvement in relationships. And yes I even love the "word vomit" and seeing how the characters analyse events and how analysis of similar events changes over time.

In short I love this VN. For me it's head and shoulders above anything else I've seen and I've pretty much seen them all. I hope that one day they all get a happy ending and I can assure you that I will be crying my eyes out when that happens.

Of course I may just be a big old naïve, softie. (OK of course I am.)

Anyway, I've only read through (some of) this thread recently after finding L&J by accident a couple of months ago and I just had to stick my neck out and support my favourite VN characters. I don't get involved on online discussions, well, ever really so I can't promise I'll respond much but I just wanted to add some positive vibes into the mix.

Take care, best wishes to you all.
I totally agree with you. I also don't perceive characters so negatively as most of people here. May be I'm not so experienced in human behavior or may be I'm just a "softy" as you call it. But for me all explanations about MC, Lacey's and Mia behaviour seems pretty believable. I event googled for Ketamine and consequences of its abuse just to make sure. Sometimes it looks a little bit stretched, but not so much that I would not believe it.

Regarding changing the past of the story.

I think we need to remember (and i think it was mentioned in the prologue) that the "history" we know from the story is not what happend "in reality". I personally remember that my perception of Lacey's past has changed several times during my reading. Both MC and Lacey have problems with memory. Lacey, Mia and even Anna have lied to MC multiple times about past events and characters. This is basically the main "irritation point" for me in the story, that "facts" are constantly changing. Lacey can not allow herself to be completely honest with MC. I remember she was talking to herself that MC is not ready to know "this part of her" and it was after the last discussion about her past. So I assume that there is more to discover about it.

Honestly I don't think Lacey need any visual enhancements. Jamie and this other asian girl (forgot the name) could use it, but Lacey is perfectly fine. But I just don't like those overblown bimbos to much. I like more the "slut" part of this path, not the "bimbo".

I will try all options in my playthroughs of course. But my favorite one will not include "bimbo" part probably.

Just my 2 cents: NTR may be fun for you (so, fine; you do you) but not so much for some of us.

Everything else you said... ...yeah, I can see that. I hate the MC more than all of the other characters combined right now and I don't see my opinion changing anytime soon.

At this point, I'm just trying to decide if it's worth my time to continue reading a story that simply makes me angry. Other than what I see here in the thread (always interesting discussions, even when I don't agree with them), anger is about all that I'm getting out of this.

The best possible ending for me? A meteorite strike that kills everyone in the story. The end.

The story makes you angry. At the same time it makes me sad. I had a depression for almost two weeks after I finished it for the first time. This is a difference in perception of the same story by different people. But the main thing that makes this story really great is that it does not leave anyone indifferent. It hits with emotions (although different for different readers) really hard.

I won't disagree that the story evokes an emotional response from the reader, I simply have a hard time seeing how I will walk away from the end of this feeling fulfilled somehow. I've read a lot of positive well-reasoned reviews so I keep telling myself it will be worth it but wow... ...just not seeing how we get from where we are to an acceptable place. We'll see, I suppose.

I can't speak for others, but my negativity towards Lacey and Mia is more so in the fact that the professor has not "fully" came to bare with their acceptance of their part in this in terms of actions. Lacey has had the most "recognition" of her wrongs in Act 2, but only in words, not actions specifically.

Mia has not come to that at all. She is as bad as she was from the start, she just has moments of behavior that makes her look like she cares, but make no mistake, she has done nothing at all, not even in words other than a few "oopsie, I am terrible" useless mentions to account for her actions.

I think this is why some have issues. Lacey has had numerous chances to actually "show" her regret in action, not words, but has not. The same is with most of the women. They act all concerned, put on a show of emotion and care, but make no decisions that confirm it, they are empty words in their actions.

Until Lacey, Mia, and the others start actually taking actions that validate their verbal claims, it is meaningless words, gas lighting to a virtuous cause.

That is why I have negative views of them, but... if this eventually shown in actions, I think many can come to at least... recognize and respect the effort. I think anyone can be "forgiven", but forgiveness does not come without consequence, there is always a price due to ones actions, even in those that forgive them. I think this is an important point in such stories.

I think Lacey and Mia seeking some type of complete absolution of their behavior isn't a realistic goal. Rather seeking redemption in ones actions through the choices made as they move on is what can at the least give them peace with the MC. I think if the Professor is writing the story to achieve some sort of complete absolution of consequence, where the MC acts as if everything is a clean slate is unreasonable. At best, it can be like a wound that heals over time, leaves a scar, but even that fades and is less noticeable over time, yet ultimately remains.

If there is a "happy ending", this is what I would hope for as anything else will be fantasy resolution that isn't realistic.

Understandable, but what keeps me at least interested is the MC being somewhat in a founding position of validity not simply in his victim of the incidents, but in his basic character in responding to it. If that is removed (I have some issues with him as many have mentioned as well and it is causing me to wane), I will have a problem. As I mentioned, I can't stand the NTR the poster you responded to is mentioning. In my opinion, its kink crap serving kink goals, not any real story relevance or meaning.

The MC is the foundation at this point, if his character falters and is withered away, the story becomes meaningless.

There has to be consequence for Lacy, Mia, and even the others in their actions. The MC can not be made to take the blame or even share in responsibility here. His healing depends on them, not him coming to terms with their behavior. They have to change and based on his character, he will adjust to fit (and has shown more than enough effort on this part to try and achieve normalcy within the chaos that is pushed on him).

He can not me made to be at fault or the whole story becomes pointless.

The characters display an obvious exaggerate behaviour.

But let me ask you something, which of Mia's behaviour is justifiable for you?

As a rape victim, cheering when Lacey is sexually assaulted?
Bringing drugs to an addict?
Trying to "steal" her best friend husband?
Sending hurtful messages because of "play acting"? (do not forget that her original plan was to send them period, because she "hated" MC)
Pushing the limits an empty drugged up shell of a girl?
Derailing another person life so she could act as a "replacement"?
Planning a last hurrah for an addict that is trying to get clean and wanted to cut off with that life?

And these are only a part of the inxeplicable things, but if you have an answer I'll be honestly very glad to hear it.

By the way, read what you googled about K, read the quantities and the frequency (they will probably talk about the magical 2.5-3g which is a fuckton), I have used more than I would like to admit, the effects are definitely exaggerated and inconsistent (especially on the memory part), but that is something I could accept since it is a novel anyway and it probably based on what you found too.

I agree this is a story about the MC; everyone else is of lesser interest to me. There can be no story without the MC.

I don't blame him for what people do to him; people, at their core, generally are shiftless self-seeking bastards who do what they do because they think it will make themselves feel good or look good or help themselves in some way. I expect bad people to do bad things; it's what bad people do. Lacey, Mia, et. al., are bad people.

What matters to me is what the MC *does* about what the bad people do to him. I don't see him doing anything positive to help himself out of this terrible place where he finds himself. Man up, for heaven's sake.

To me, the worst thing Lacey ever did to the MC was not when she ghosted him; the worst thing she did was when she returned to his life. Her departure was a blessing and an opportunity for the MC to grow and heal. Her return was a curse.

We cannot control what others do to us but we can control our response to what they do to us. I don't see the MC reacting /
responding in a meaningful way. I don't want to see the MC's life improve because Lacey and Mia become better people; I want to see the MC's life improve because he discovers how to give a damn and stand up for himself. Cut slingload with those toxic people, move away, get a new phone number, and start a new life.

Not to be confrontational with you but until the MC steps up for himself, bad people will continue to do bad things to him and I will continue to blame him for the condition in which he finds himself (due to his inaction).

As always, I appreciate reading your comments and insight.

Overall, I believe you and I are in violent agreement.

The one place I will disagree is your last paragraph: I have a low level in interest in what happens (karma) to Lacy, Mia, and the others. I wrote off caring about them some time ago. To me, this story succeeds or fails upon the MC and what he chooses to do about his current life situation. If those characters get their comeuppance but the MC remains wallowing in his own doubt and self-pity, we still have a bad ending. If the MC gets his act together, what happens to the others is irrelevant and we have a good ending. "Those people remain worthless but they're out of my life now" would be a fine way for things to end for me.

Even when you choose to do nothing, you made a choice.

That would be ideal, and certainly the professor could eventually add a means to achieve this (ie my guess is the GG points getting to zero might lead to that in some form), but over all... the story is about the MC dealing with this and we have a reasonable means as to why (his abuse and connection to Lacey) which is what this is all about.

When all is said and done, we could get multiple story ends including what you seek, but my guess is that ultimately the story is going to be focused on the redemption of the betrayers and the MC coming to some resolution that accepts it. Now if that is done respectfully to the MC or not, this remains to be seen.

What you seem to need, what I also like in an Netorare story, is the revenge endings. :)

This story I am less with you simply because of what it is trying to explore in terms of a betrayal storyline.

My favorite Netorare stories though are the ones where the MC is competent, caring, and level headed... the FC falls astray, turns evil (ie begins to disrespect the MC in her corruption) and the MC plots a revenge on the FC/Antagnoist that is clever and devious leaving them in utter shambles which is just for their deeds.

So I am with you on that aspect of expectations, it is just this story has a different approach and didn't walk into the MCs betrayal in a way that is easily "excused" as "Evil woman deserves the noose". There are circumstances here that at least for "Lacey" can be "reasoned".

I only loosly mention acceptance of a Mia redemption as a matter of argument. Honestly, that bitch is cold and evil to the core. Nothing less than swinging from the gallows in terms of consequences are good enough for her IMO, but... I was being "rational and reasonable" from a forgiveness position.

You're not wrong.

I just am a cynical old coot and don't believe people when they claim they've seen the Light and changed.

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me"

And even if they *do* really change, until the MC learns to look out for himself he's just one more bad person away from disaster (again).
