But no one is disputing that, Lacey is an hypocritical narcissist, I don't know why you are so combative about it.
Maybe the prof has been too good in creating a compelling story and made emotions run high

.
I can only say that I am glad that our judicial system understood and implemented the concept of extenuating circumstances, Lacey does apply for some, she is a VERY damaged person who made, as you correctly stated, a great number of wrong choices, the worst among all would be the one to abandon MC.
If you check the thread, no one or almost no one is creating justifications for her, and those who do definitely can do so because her actions did not touch their personal life (with this being a fictional tale and all).
In fact, most people find the concept of forgiveness as a tall tale in this story, as it would be a total lack of self respect by MC, but acceptance and understanding are on the table.
I feel you are also missing the point of Lacey trying to be accountable of her actions, old and new, which should be taken into consideration while drafting her ccharacter profile.
As for MC...he is a deeply damaged person too, granted, I absolutely despise how he's been written, in fact he is just a step under Mia in my book.
But he is a selfless and altruistic victim, and going too hard on him without considering his circumstances is a bit dense on our part.
My main gripe is how he is written as a strong protector while actually being the complete opposite, putting Lacey in danger simply because he either doesn't act, is not sincere OR puts the needs of others above hers (looking at you Isaac).
That said, I understand your frustration, but if you let that pass for a moment and try to read between the lines you will find much more nuance and enjoyment of this novel.
Lets see what act 3 brings to the table, I am waiting to see if we will get more clarity on Lacey's past, which is riddled with half truths and her painting herself as the victim, hopefully her character arc will make her better in that regard and maybe MC will start being a stronger lead.
Remember we still don't know what plot MC has in the no fun route, the dialogue was not particurlarly well meaning and hopefully it would not become a cuck route (which makes MC lose GG points btw).
But now you made me curious, what are your thoughts about the rest of the cast?
