Sure, i live in a "first world country" but even in a third world country it´s wrong. None of the things you listed justifys beating a woman.
You simply disarm the woman, and call the police afterwards. To be honest, your arguments don´t seem realistic to me.
I was raised to respect woman by my parents and even my grand parents. I have absolutely no problem with respect.
And if you think i am weak or soft, i served as a sniper in a parashooter regiment for 12 years.
Sure ya did buddy. Also respect is earned. Women dont automatically get respect for being born female.

It´s useless to discuss with you. Keep on beating up everyone you like. I don´t see any reason to discuss this any longer.

I rarely comment on games, but this one has kinda stuck with me a bit for a few days.

On one hand, no one should put up with Lacey's behaviour, but somehow she manages to keep that feeling that maybe she can change... even though the chance is slim.

I think we've all known someone a bit like Lacey, maybe not quite to the extreme seen here, but someone who always has an excuse for everything, always finds a way to avoid taking responsibility for their actions, or going all out to make everything your problem not theirs. And I think this is why some here are so infuriated by her and her actions (and also why some of us kinda feel the need to 'save' her - guess we are all broken in certain ways or something).

The story, although wordy (and with obvious porn logic at times) still manages to stir emotions in the player, which is something all to rare in a lot of games I have played. I also think that is why it's triggered pages of discussion here, Lacey makes it so you cannot be indifferent, so if you already dislike someone acting this way, she will trigger that rage (and blame you for it of course) or if you're more like myself, you want to see if she can be redeemed or not.

Anyway, that's more words than I've posted on any forum for many years, so this game is doing something right... even if Lacey makes you feel like shit by the end of your playthrough.

Looking forward to chapter 2.
Honestly I find the entire game silly as fuck. I'm clearly not a normal person when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I literally felt nothing the entire game except for "Who the fuck talks like this?" and "Who the fuck would make decisions like this?". I'm not trying to downplay anyone's emotions about the game, I'm just curious why you have them at all. Like how old are you, have you ever been through actual trauma, how many years worth of relationships have you been in? I'd love to ask that of everyone who felt emotional about this game, I'm quite fascinated. I've been through some serious shit in my life, and one of the girls in my life once started to pull manipulative shit which including talking about cheating, not sure if she ever would have actually done so, but my reaction was to feel hurt for a few days and then I stopped feeling anything at all about her. I had a good think and figured out a plan of action. Then I spent the next few months extricating myself from the relationship very carefully. One of her suicide attempts even involved handing me a knife and then trying to throw herself onto it. Clearly a completely psychotic person, but I managed to get myself out of the situation without her killing herself. And if she had killed herself that wouldn't be on me, I did everything that I could. That is the only realistic reaction I can think of to a situation like that, all the shit in this game just seems so goofy to me. Do people really behave this way? Do people really hate themselves so much that can keep caring while they are being hurt? Is this related to the reasons why humans kill each other constantly?

Humans can't be simplified like that. I am not sure what has you so angry towards them, but I doubt lashing out is going to accomplish anything.

I said this before, you need quite a bit of suspension of disbelief to enjoy the game.
In many ways this is a classic tragedy and my guess is that most people here lie in wait for some sort of MC awakening, a climax of MC finally standing up to the injustices he is subjected to, this is hinted but never happens, so the reader is kept on edge and we get bad event after bad event.
Some people enjoy this, look at telenovelas, look at romance shojo mangas.

Granted I have to agree with you, it gets tiring after a while and even if the author gives the MC a small win at some point, it is never the victory we want to see: a win against his subservience to Lacey and her lies, a win against his simp attitude.

We get a weak MC, that is never able to express his emotions or act on them and even when he does, everything is erased in minutes after some manipulation and we are back to square one, the emotional growth and payoff is non existant, unless you consider that now he gets excited if other people fuck lacey, this is not the promised emotional payout, it's a fetish fulfillment (this is honestly the only part that I truly dislike as it feels extremely forced).

Let me make you an example: in musicals, you have a nice predefined structure, the protagonist will sing about what they WANT and the villain will sing about themselves and what they ARE.
In this story MC wishes and wants are never fulfilled, he has to compliment Lacey for the slut dress, he has to accept everything she and their friends do to him, all the while demonizing his natural feelings.
Would someone with so much trouble with his emotions be able to do so? Obviously not, we would get at least some lashing out, but this is a way for the author to create an MC without agency so that the storytelling can go on and for fetishes to be fulfilled.
His jealousy about Lacey, which is absolutely warranted, as jealousy is lack of trust about your partner, is dismissed over and over as a demonic sin.

So as the best romance shojo manga, we get thrown in a loop if tragedies, issues and misunderstanding that could have been resolved by saying something are kept going to create artificial situations.

The dialogues after a while feel very unorganic and curated, it is difficullt to find true feelings behind them and MC is able to change his emotions at a moments notice, this why the author need to abuse the "emotional" tag in dialogues, because it is not clear to the reader.

For example Imagine how much more impactful the promotion to IT director arc would have been if MC feelings were directed towards loyalty and affection for Jeanette, if his first thought would be "I am betraying my friend, I owe her and now I get this chance and she doesn't, I feel bad about it because I care for her" insrtead of "white man vs black woman yadda yadda" which completely dehumanize them and makes them a statistic.
Imagine how much more impactful the discussions between Anna and Mia about the messages Mia sent to MC or Mia and Lacey during the suicide would have been if they spoke about MC feelings and emotions instead of dismissing his whole personality as "Male Ego".
They know MC, they know his weaknesses, it could have been very personal and a way to show the connection between individuals, instead we get a generic comment, MC becomes a (debatable) statistic.

Another example, we get told over and over that Lacey has very blurred memories, but then she spends most of the time describing every single sex act perfectly, remembering each dick shape and size (including while MC is about to kill himself), assigning names and behaviours to her partners even better than Mia.
Would someone with a blurred or damaged memory be able to do so? Obviously not, it is just a way for the author to force feelings and maker her disgusting (or exciting if you are a person that enjoys humiliation) to the reader.
We get told that Lacey rejects Jared touching her breasts, while we discover that a minute before he was groping her ass like everything is normal and he was already groping her in the bathub. Would this happen in real life? would that make sense? Obviously not, since Lacey is very familiar with sexual touch (and abuse) and tells us over and over how she despises people coming on to her in the wrong environment.
So either she is enjoying it and she is cheating or ir all becomes nonsensical at best and bad writing at worst.

I wrote extensively about the other various inconsistencies and unresolved arcs, the tennis practical joke, Lacey laughing with Jared, the bathub incident , the Damian incident and the lies about Barty are only a few of them.

That said, you felt that the game is silly, you felt anger at MC and Lacey's actions.
You felt something, which is more than what can be said about many games here (which have a different purpose, I'm not kicking anyone down).

did you notice how you related it to someone despite saying you felt nothing. That very fact that you can and clearly do relate it to someone is the very point I was making there, chief.

I dated a girl with BPD who was a manipulative cunt, I guess there's elements of that I relate to, but remember that it is fiction and caricatured. Within that we have to remember that everyone reacts differently to situations, whether its the guy above saying he would beat her, your more pragmatic approach, or the already broken man blinded by his love for a person so deeply that he sees past their flaws over and over until he completely breaks.

In my eyes even if there are inconsistencies and questionable actions/explanations...

...its all about the very deep existential fear (a lot of us know very well - often since childhood) not "to be enough" for existing or potential partners, , never to be the "first choice"...one of the major sources for jelousy amongst others....

..on the other side the beloved or admired partner who is cheating and NOT giving understandable or substantial explanations or reasons for cheating or ignorance......(maybe out of selfishness...whatever...) - the point is in this game that there is NO plausible explanation, reason which intensifies the pain on the partner side...

the game is playing this stressful toxic psychologic element pretty well until the end of the first chapter... so in my eyes well done....

I am excited to see the following steps / progress....

I share your excitement about the next act and I am completely with you about the questionable actions.
Not so much about inconsistencies in the writing, those are simply missteps, the writer wants to convey something but also something else, most of the time to fullfill a fetish, and that pushes the reader away from immersion and getting intertwined in the story.
Look, without going into the whole fetish part, how can we reconcile MC resentment towards Lacey's past and his relationship with Mia?
How can we reconcile the haunting past, strong jealousy or disgust (depending which choice you make) towards Lacey and not connect the dots towards the person that pushed her to it?
One moment MC threatens Mia, and 2 slides later he is in love with her, no growth, no connection.
Same with Mia, one moment she hates him, moments later she is in love, no growth, no exploration of the situation.
Anna suffers of the same problem with her relationship with Lacey, which is now a "sister" to her, in less than a year of knowing each other.
Veronica? One moment she is a friend, the other moment we discover she betrayed MC to the point MC threatening her (unbelievable considering his past actions), moments after is sexting time.....how?

I understand what the writer is trying to do, but some of the attempts are clumsy.

Aside from the problem about some writing choices I mentioned about "american college" colture, I see and agree about the abandonement issues, which in some parts of the game are wrote very well in MC character, also the description of Lacey's behaviour as a child is very well done.

Where I cannot agree with you is that there are no plausible explanations, things and actions have motives behind them, even short term gratification and ignoring your partner wishes and well being.
If ignoring this is a deliberate writing choice to, as you mentioned, increase the MC suffering in our eyes, it is still an easy out for the writer to avoid fleshing out the story and characters.

And that is the more glaring problem the game has when sujected to a more mature audience in my opinion.

Now it sounds like I am bashing the writer, to be clear I am not, I am trying to express some conctructive criticism, because the story is actually full of potential.

I agree that there are explanations or motives ... but for the MC there are in the end no plausible reasons, only lies, she negleted, ignored him all the time to follow her own selfish "motives"... maybe i should have indicated that my statement is only coming from the MC's pov...

Now that I've played it (not to completion still) I have more things to say.

1. That thing Lacey and MC have has nothing to do with love. It's codependency, and toxic at that.
2. Nobody talks like that.
3. Nobody behaves like that. Even with codependency MC wouldn't wait for all those explanations, he would either leave or kill himself. Even with brain damage (this explanation is sus anyway) nobody would do all those things and, definately, not in that way (just one example: Lacey knows that even on the good days she is prone to bad descisions and can't always understand what's going on. What does she do? Under the influence goes alone to drink with the plan to have one night stand and film the whole thing for her husband who isn't into that. What could possibly go wrong?). None of the girls would wait patiently being just friends if they want more: they'll move on. None of the girls would jump on the chance to fuck MC, especially if they want more. Anna wouldn't become instant friend to Lacey, she would probably resent her even before knowing all that fucked up shit. Anna definately wouldn't use phrases like "male ego" speaking about love of her life with the cheating slut who destroyed her chance at happyness. Mia wouldn't instantly fall in love with MC from one meeting if she wasn't before. MC can't be such whimp and simp. None of the girls would want to fuck him if he was. The list isn't remotely complete but I seriously can't force myself to read all ridiculous dialoge in the game.

In the end, this game is nothing more than badly written soap opera with NTR porn. But it can be therapeutic for someone, I guess. To know that even if you wera a whimp and a simp you still can have love.

1. I think that is part of the story
2. yes, they are talking like they are in front of a therapist, with the added injury of the spat between Isaac and MC where each one can go on with a 5 minute monologue, spats are usually quick 1-2 liners, not a debate
3. this is exactly what I meant on my last post about inconsistencies, they were too many and you got pulled out of the storytelling, ruining your experience.

While I think you are being too harsh (we are not talking about a professional writer here), you make some very valid points.
If I can add one to the list: almost every single character has a trauma of some sort and it is fetishized, having more "normal" characters with a few standing out would have been better and make those characters pop to the eye of the reader.

Good work dev!
I've played through the game and am eagerly awaiting the next update. I find it interesting how polarising the opinions about the game here are. My overall impression is that the game is unique and has a unique selling point. I've never played a game with so much text. But I was so captivated by the story, that I played it in one go. The writing style and the emotional connection is awesome.
It also has some weaknesses, but I can overlook them because the text more than makes up for them. The pictures are well done, though the faces are pretty teeny. I would like to see more ‘maturity’, but the emotions are expressed well on the faces. I would also like to see a few more pictures.
Only the MC's harem is too much in my eyes and does not fit completely. What would be more ‘acceptable’ would be something like a single good friend who loves the MC. Another good friend of the MC doesn't want anything from him, but thinks he'd better end the relationship - something like that. But like I said, I can overlook that. So there are more naughty scenes. :p

p.s.: english is not my native language
