White dress looks fine in game, in the trailer though it looks very flat, might be YouTube video compression, nothing stands out on it, just a white silhouette, not form fitting, no sparkles, or different materials for highlights, etc.
It might be compression. For the actual video I'll be using another host (borrowed from Hopesgaming), but it's an open question.

But, of all of Emily's outfits (and there are some that never made it off my computer yet) I love that one the most.... it's neck-to-ankle, yet manages to ooze sensuality.

Can't really think of other edits for the trailer other than "more" and accentuations like magic signs, potions, using the space in the book to instill relationships.

What I mean by the last one is people have specific connections, like If MC's mom was shown the as of known would be Player, Chloe and maybe black silhouette for Dad, while say princess would be her dad, player, and maybe chloe.

Using placement or amount of a character to hint at story amount/relevance they have.

Stupid old timey fonts, old timey drawings, etc. (most of these ideas are just throwing darts at a wall, since most of them have no bearing/relevance to the game).

Thanks, mate.

I'll have another look tomorrow, I've got time for at least one more render-pass (though it steals my PC for hours) before I push it live. I wish there was some way to share the patreon page with you guys before I do... I'd be willing to bet $50 that there's things I've screwed up on it :)

I'm trying to do an 'ethical' patreon; the game will always be available for free (here, and something like Itch, pay what you want). So I'm still looking at what makes people subscribe. Is things like access to a bugtracker and task tracker valuable? At which point does a weekly AMA make sense? Voting for content? Helping Designing content (by having input into characters or events)?

The short answer is... this is all new for me. I've been making games for a long time, but I'm a complete newb at this.

(and yes, I'm aware I'm asking at a pirate site... but this is how I got into erodev in the first place :D )

People like seeing bugtrackers/task trackers/percentage complete etc. of Games so they can estimate next release, however I doubt most people will want to sub for that. A lot of it is delayed releases, like 1 week early to patrons which will also be to bug check, etc. Then the free people get it.

Some people will pay for learning how a dev does what they do, so small videos of you doing the work like animating something.

Specialty renders of the characters, you know 1 or 2 things a week to show off the models.

Voting polls on things that don't matter. (Example: New Asian character being added what nationality? This mainly doesn't matter because you can find roughly similar myth concepts and organization concepts across them.) (Example: Order to add a new character in. As long as they appear in ch 2 and their story gets told, being before or after another character isn't really changing the meta story.) (Example: if you are having trouble deciding between A,B,C,D looks of a character let the voting decide) Shit like that.

Sure you can do help on design or events but make sure it is in a controlled manner. Like you giving choices to it, rather than someone suggesting hey add "A lesbian 3 some between Female MC, Nubian Goddess and a ghost" or turns out MC's mom is actually his Dad and Merlin is his mom. Plot twists are fine as long as they aren't stupid.

Small addendums to lore or whatever via maybe a small story fleshing something out. Who previously owned the Crowley, What is up with book lady, etc.

A weekly AMA doesn't make sense until you are making big bucks and then most of those questions will be "when is blank happening" will there be more sex with "blank" just like a ton of similar meh questions. So maybe just do a once a month roundup of questions.

Just remember with all of this, make sure you are happy with what you are making.

Last piece of advice I would say is be a pirate yourself. What I mean by this is look at a bunch of patreons from here preferably ones doing well, and steal ideas.

I'm thinking of doing 'continuous builds' (I usually do daily builds at work, so.. every day I work on LoM, when I'm done, I push another build to Mega). I wouldn't want those *out*, because obviously there'll be half-built quests and more bugs than an ant-colony, but for some people it might be interesting.

I'm trying to not do staggered releases (especially the "tier A, tier B, tier C patreons, then normies); there's a couple of reasons for that, but the big one is that it feels dishonest. Most of the players know about pirate sites like F95, so for them the fiction that "since you're only a $5 patreon, you'll have to wait another week" is just a polite fiction... you'll go grab it from one of the 5 mirrors in this thread. For *some* users, who don't know, it'll actually be a wait (and they'd be justifiably pissed when they find out I'm fully aware of the pirates).

But mostly it's about the difference between monetizing pleasure and monetizing pain. This comes back to my unfortunate stint in Free-To-Play mobile games. When you generate revenue by 'pinching' the player, you're monetizing pain. Think of the "Wait 24 hrs to progress through these 3 gates, or give me money" mechanic in Candy Crush. Nobody *asked* for that. Nobody said to themselves.. thank god, I've got another mandatory cool-down period before I can play this game again. Meanwhile, Heartstone monetizes pleasure... here's a special offer to get lots of packs that we'll animate really pretty when they open. Yay you got an awesome card!

Making porn games is my hobby, and my escape from normie development... I won't do anything that monetizes pain in them :)

I actually do a lot of these, just as part of my work. In terms of what would make sense for patreons, I think access to all these kinds of how-I-work videos would be one thing. I probably should start narrating them, but I'm kinda paranoid about my voice being recognized :)

Here's one I worked on for Act II, showing work-in-progress animation for one of the Homework assignments ("Giving and taking pleasure is at the heart of Ceremonial Magic....")
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
I also thought about releasing the various asset sets to patreons; maybe a high tier would be "here, all the raw 2D assets" (I can't release the 3D assets, since they're not mine, but things like spine files, raw renders, etc might be interesting. I even considered source code access, but I doubt anyone wants it :)

Yeah. That kind of thing is both easy and nice. They also make nice patreon-only posts.

Yeah, I've got no intention of letting anyone change the story or break canon with this. It's more stuff like random encounters in elsewhere, slice of life moments, etc. No, you don't get to impregnate Molly, there's reasons why she is a virgin, and she shall remain that way (at least vaginally) for a while.

A weekly AMA doesn't make sense until you are making big bucks and then most of those questions will be "when is blank happening" will there be more sex with "blank" just like a ton of similar meh questions. So maybe just do a once a month roundup of questions.
Likely a good suggestion. I like the idea of collecting questions over time and then doing a bigger AMA

Yeah, I've been scouting through a bunch of the patreons from people i respect. My biggest headache is how to differentiate higher tiers without getting evil. Obviously stuff like "work with me to create a random Elsewhere event each month" works, but I don't know if I should put that at the $10 tier or if that's going to destroy me ;)

Anyways, thanks for the feedback, it more or less maps to what I've been thinking myself.

The week delay wasn't a tiered delay idea, more of a you think the game is solid, but need those people to check it before it goes "gold" for everyone else. Which of course would be stated in the patron, that the first version posted is a bug check version for the people who want to check it, then if nothing, or after clearing everything you can up, push it to the populace. Of course you will probably have to also put out another fix a bit later after the populace points out other problems.

Use a voice modulator? Shit um I think it is called Facerig, basically it has voice modulation for videos, and you can look like an anime waifu or animal.

Maybe make some Cheap animated Wallpapers with.

Of course Patrons like to be thanked so some in world way of mentioning them, maybe in the pub as "regulars" or "don't let these people in until they pay their tab" list the player can check to see who to bounce.

Man thinking back, has the player called their Mom a few times since ending up in England? Otherwise he is bad son.

You could try a community type thing? Not sure if you watch things like Twitch, but they started a thing where if you donate/sub it gives other people access to things too. So maybe like at a certain point of patron the lower tiered/older stuff gets shared or added into the game via the computer?

Umm trainers? This would be breaking the poker out of the game and having it as a standalone they can use, where it would allow the person to play and learn.

A new side game (Katie's connect 3?)

Mini-game for the bartending maybe something like or its sequel.

Actual access to some of the books from the lady in text form?

Background stories that won't be covered by the game, like Katie's random boastings about gang bangs, or how the player was made aka his dad banging his mom with chloe

Since I only have chapter 1 to work from it is hard to point to things and say yeah that would work. Since a lot of games allow for like commissions or having a dev make a character they design.

The elsewhere event each month is fine, but what happens when you have a bunch at that tier? I would say with something like that, just start it as normal and define for that later, like first 5 or whatever at insert price point or a rotational list, so old people don't always get it, and new people can.

I would suggest if you don't want people to want to have sex with certain characters to make them ugly. You made the Mother good looking, so of course sooner or later someone will ask when the Mom will visit for some incest, etc.

As an experiment I also decided to upload it to PornHub. We'll see if anything actually comes out of it, and if it in any way matches the intended audience :)

I finished the first pass on Ceremonial Magic III. Emily is AWOL, so you've gotten a new study buddy. For some reason, homework with Molly is a very different experience.

I'm trying to experiment with the sex scenes in this act, making them more interactive and more like the Strip MMA battle sequence; this walkthrough does not represent the 'best' (i.e. lewdest) path through the encounter, but all paths leads to the same long term path.

Now back to work on Homework IV, which is by far the most complex scene I've done so far, in terms of branching points, recursion and animating cutscenes.

Since I'm working on the story for Act II I decided to take a quick break to make fan icons for two of the new characters, Akane and Kitsune, as well as one for Chloe. The full set of signatures are over in the Dev Thread. If anyone has any fan-developed ones they'd like to add to that, let me know and I'll append it to the list!

This game deserves much more publicity. I'd admit: I was a little bit sceptical cause I don't like Unity AVNs and it looked so much like another adult Harry Potter, which is not bad but it's overdone imho.

Really love the story so far and Emily is probably among my top 5 favourite girls in adult games so far. Apart from bugs, my only complaint is: why different cards don't do a different amount of damage? It's underwhelming when you have a full house but you could do the same thing with just one pair.

Actually, it's one of the things that needs a better tutorial on my part.

If you click the poker icon in the top right, you open up the gem placement interface. Basically each gem can be placed in a slot that has enough power for it (Katie discusses this briefly, but I should reinforce it when you return to the bedroom that night). So Lighting7 is a "four of a kind" type gem; that means it can be placed in any slot four-of-a-kind or higher. You can buy gems from the quartermaster, or (what I'm working on now) trade them with Chloe and find them while fighting in Elsewhere.

In this case, I'd place the Lightning7 at Four of a kind. Each time I hit him with lightning (in this case I've got another lightning gem at Two Pair) he takes damage + accumulate stun. If stun > 20, remove 20 stun and the enemy loses a turn. The gem in flush/straight are diamonds, they just put down significantly higher damage. The Royal Flush gem is a fire damage; fire will continue to damage the enemey at the end of their turn, every turn.

This part of the system is all tied to the replayable paths of elsewhere, and will be a big focus going forward.

This is an interesting point, actually, and one that I wonder if hurts my ' ', especially since it's much more Harry Dresden than Harry Potter.

It might be wortwhile re-writing the marketing intro, focusing perhaps on the prophecy and the larger world, rather than the invite letter from the University.

Something like :

"We come for you, Winter Child. Run all you wish, it shall not save you. The Gods have grown weak, the Court has splintered, the Sword lost, the Mantle discarded... this time Merlin's legacy shall not stop us. We come, Winter Child. We come for you, and everything you have ever loved".

Welcome to a world of grand prophecy, and intimate romance. A world where Magic is real, Gods get drunk in your local pub, and King Arthur's Granddaughter is your study buddy. Welcome to Love of Magic".

It's basically just those first few sentences between mum and MC that gave HP vibe but I agree it would be maybe better to start in more ominous tone - just so people wouldn't think "Ah, another adult HP clone."
