Puzzle game with simple cards"strange and confusing"? Please explain what is confusing on this really simple premise (I remember when ICQ was online, it has similar puzzle game, that was played by 10yo children and they were NOT confused).
I actually need a lot of explanation in your post. Sandbox is "minuscule and irrelevant" and yet you never reached part of the game where it is? (The other side of the portal)
"Attractiveness" of characters is only relevant part in your post. Because that is entirely on one's taste...
But that makes me curious. WHAT is attractive model in your book?
Maybe we "players and hardcore fans" prefer good writing and well crafted stories.
Not everyone knows poker. Not everyone is interested in card games/has exposure or interest in poker. I do know that millions (billions) of people can recite every potential winning/losing hand combination in several variations of poker and other card games. Adding the 5x5 play field is just even more complex when the basic premise is confusing to start with. Yes, I lack exposure. Yes, I know I am confessing to being a non-curious idiot when it comes to poker. I have no shame for lacking desire to spend time on that.
The sandbox consists of very few locations, many or most of which are empty or have nothing going on 90% of the time.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, the women are good looking, but without any actual animation, staring at the same exact "sprite" render that does not alter in any significant way is boring.
I'm not saying Love of Magic is a bad game. I know it's beloved by most players. I respect the choices and acknowledge that many poker lovers are excited to engage with the play style. I know it can be more-or-less disabled or skipped, but the remainder of the setup just does not engage with me either.
It's just my personal preferences. We all have different desires and hopes when going into an adult game. This just didn't do it for me. I installed the game after seeing so many "Top 10" lists with Love of Magic in the top 5. Like many of those "Top 10" lists, they included games I have tried playing and found lacking in some way.
Everyone has their own desires, interests, and motivations. When a game does not light the spark on multiple levels for a person, while exploding an inferno of joy for many others, it all comes down to what the player expects being fulfilled or not.
