How long is the sandbox introduction for Season 2, or have I somehow accidentally ended up playing the VN version?

its quite long, whole time while you are at home, sandbox comes in effect once you are back at academy

The VN-style introduction goes all the way until you're back at the academy again and the first few things that happen there. I think it takes about 30–60 minutes, although I might not be remembering the time it took accurately. It's definitely there for the sandbox version as well, though.
It didn't seem very long to me, but I admit I wasn't exactly paying attention to track the time when I played through it.
