I really like the models in Lust Theory but oh man it's so clear they had a great one season story until they decided to milk it with that awful cliffhanger. Season 2 and 3 are dull even though the art and scenes are still amazing. LB was the most interesting thing they've had going on for a while imo.
I agree the models are hot.
And I agree that the Season 1 game dynamics are engaging, with the progression from rejection to sex feeling just right.
Season 2 started okay but became boring midway, and EXTREMELY boring toward the end with that nonsensical "I want to show a double penetration but I don't want to upset the anti-NTR snowflakes, so I'll just clone the MC" never-ending fuckfest with no story at all... Geez... if I only wanted sex scenes, that's what PornHub is for.
I don't think that Season 2 ending was originally intended as a cliffhanger. They just ran out of ideas on how to wrap up the story, kindof like what happened with the TV series
Lost, which after the first two seasons turned into pure writer's block nonsense.
They didn't know what to come up with to explain the mystery of the time loops, so they just cut it short with a...
oh, fuck it! Nothing was real.
And that was meant to be the DEFINITIVE end of the ENTIRE SERIES, not just the Season 2 finale.
I think a Season 3 wasn't planned.
Then the Patreon supporters voted overwhelmingly to make a Season 3,
probably because they were furious about how the mystery was brushed off in Season 2 and wanted the story to be patched up — kind of like the character played by Kathy Bates in
Misery who kidnaps her favorite author to force him to write a new book to patch up the disappointing ending of the previous one.
---
The new writer has taken on this burden, and I think he is doing a good job given the circumstances. Of course, he was forced to say
"The AI simply lied in Season 2" which sounds a lot like "Bobby Ewing never died"... but what else could he have come up with, given the premises he had to start from?
Unfortunately, he was forced to shoehorn some narrative nonsense into the story just to do product placement for a brand of sex toys I won't name, but this is not on him.
This is on those pulling the strings (and the purse strings), and it's unfair to the pledgers who donate expecting a story but instead get an advertisement.
That's one of the reasons why I do not pledge for Inceton: they simply are not loyal to their pledgers.
Unfortunately, so far those same executives also decided it was a good idea to spread efforts by developing 4 or 5 games simultaneously, which resulted in rather short updates (some with zero story development and only sex scenes as filler) and infrequent releases... This led to a drop in reader engagement (and a mess in their heads because it’s hard to remember in which game a certain event took place when jumping around different universes with the same characters).
But now, the higher-ups have finally decided (thanks, Patreon voters!) to focus on one game at a time, so hopefully we’ll get consistent updates — not just in terms of gameplay length, but
most importantly in terms of
story development (long dialogues are not necessarily meaningful dialogues, plot wise!) — and on a monthly basis!
And let’s hope they give the writer the freedom to write for the sake of the plot, not just to promote third-party brands, so he can tell a solid story with a meaningful, well-crafted ending instead of a rushed one.
