You should put not only the save file, but also the global.rpgsave file. There are stored some data of the game, it makes save unique.
If the archive does not have this file, then start a new game, save, then replace it with the downloaded save under the same name.
They are in the forest, where you finished the game. Use the teleport near the castle to get there.
Check the parking lot near the castle.

ofc not all. Look at Summertime Saga. They started as incest game and had to remove it. A few fans tried to enable the incest content, but not sure how far they got.
