A Ren'Py game that pops up ads opens backdoors? Just...wow. I don't think you understand how these things work.Because there is a "backdoor" in place that delivers the ads and it leads out in the internet. Your firewall won't help you since you unlocked that door to be able to play. You might trust whomever you unlocked it for (in this case Inceton) but he is not the only one who will be able to use it under a lot of circumstances.
You can shut the ads off and don't see them, but there is still that backdoor and it very much could be used by others.
Same reason that you HAVE to use an ad blocker while surfing. It is not about seeing or not seeing ads - most people don't much care either way, but that there is no possibility to control possible malware that could use the openings that ad streams use...and even the people/sites/platforms utilizing the ad stream to make a buck don't have full control. Yeah, even the fricking Washington Post or the Guardian can NOT control everything that runs through these channels they inculde in their offers. Much less a lone little developer.
THAT is why it is not a great idea...
