Hyao shouldn't of even started writing a story if he had no clear mind as to how it was going to end, who would buy an incomplete book that kept changing stories every 5 fking seconds.
For that there should've been a story, and there hasn't been a story in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time, just Patreon fanservice for the cashcows/whales.

I don't think the game is bad, but it feels stagnant due to filler updates and plotlines going nowhere because he drops them for so long. Pretty much nothing gets accomplished in these updates. It's just fanservice and more plotline crumbs. I'd prefer if he did more event focused updates w/ npc stuff sprinkled in instead, so it'd at least feel like there was some progress happening.

Also, Hyao really should take a break to deal w/ his burnout already and maybe consider using the guest writers more often.

I mean, just cos you write a story and haven't finished it or progressed on it doesn't mean you don't know what you wanted to end on. I was working on a dating sim, 7 romances, different plots, different backgrounds, different endings, and even 3 story mode types which varied those endings (fantasy, fiction, fucked. Basically "everyone's happy", "some are happy", and "Dramatical Murder" respectively).

I had the start. I had the end. I even had major plot points, sex scenes and prologue stories you could unlock as you play certain paths. But the middle? I haven't written shit in 3 years. I have a bunch of other projects with the same story: have the beginning and end, have all the plot points, haven't touched them in ages. A Resident Evil fan game, a corruption prison porn game, an RPG with a massive amount of customization and sex scenes (I got the customization finished too!), a psychological horror, a Salem game about how evil can be those proclaiming to be good, and these are just Renpy projects I can remember, we're not even including my RPG Maker projects I failed...

Stories aren't just "you started so you will finish", this isn't Mastermind. Even with an army of writers and every plot point perfected, it still requires a lot of rewriting, padding and detail. It's draining. ._.

I admire you wanna make a good + finished game.
Maybe I'm not the man to say this, but hv you considered to push them out then play by ear? Maybe they are not as failures as you thought, maybe they just need a little push, maybe you'd gain some inspiration to keep you going.
We all know developing game is difficult, even if it's not working out, there're tons of abandoned "fun projects", nobody loses. :p

It's called Ocean Whispers. The name was originally a work in progress but I started developing a plot around it so it stuck. It's not much of a demo but it's on there. It's a gay furry thing though, just incase you're not into that. Really ugly graphics too, I have no drawing talent.

That's just the thing, I do actually have a single release on itch.io. It's two days of the Student dating path, plus I think day one of the teacher path. It even has functioning achievements (which took two days to learn to code properly... Fuckin' VPGrids...). It's the only thing I've posted online and I honestly thought I'd get back into the groove, but any time I got remotely close to trying to write again, my desire was stymied. Corrupt HDD, broken laptop, massive stress, exhaustion, too much daily work, ill pets, busy trying to deal with other drama, I can never find the time or will to write anymore. The last thing I wrote was a script for a Crash Bandicoot games review (all five, played in full) on PS1 and that's currently locked on my old laptop given I can't access the HDD without a USB connector given the old screen is fucked. -_-

Don't get me wrong, I want to work, if I could beam all of these ideas out of my head I'd be a god of both porn and animation (The dating sim (which I forgot to mention, the idea was to focus on drama and make you fall for the characters, not just be a "hey, cock!" like some others) I mentioned I started mentally planning out as an anime too recently. Really helps listening to Man With A Mission, some good ideas came out of songs there), but no amount of trying, coffee, booze or encouragement helps.

Hence the previous post, cos I mean I had nothing but free time in the past and still failed to do anything for free. I don't even know what life Hyao leads.

Bit of a rant I know, but it's a force of habit to ramble...

I agree that Hyao needs to stop adding lots of pointless filler content and just focus on pushing the plot forward. It doesn't matter if we have to wait longer for Zoroj and Narram to add all of the visual aspects, at the very least we'd like to see more of the story regardless of how generic it is.

And on that note, ya'll noticed how Hyao has kept diverting his focus from each major plot he keeps adding? We JUST got introduced to the Orc Clans but then he sends us off to deal with a Zombie town. When we first started playing LD we had two plots, Bandits and Lizardfolk. But since then he's been adding one new plotline after another and never finishing any of them. Which, from my perspective, seems to be what's pissing everybody off. We like some of the new content, I guess. But what we really want is to push the story forward.

I think the reason why everybody is bitching about Hyao's Side Content is because were currently living in an industry where too many folks are constantly failing to finish their games. CoC2 and TITS are still being developed, BBS2 is facing a ton of controversy because of how poorly it controls and how drastically different it was from the original. Oh So Hero! and Kemo Coliseum have gone dark. It's concerning. The fact that Hyao actively chooses to distract us with side content that his own customers came up with is discouraging to say the least.

Well I for one don't really mind the wait. The side content we're getting imo isn't bad by any stretch of the means. I kinda wish there was more of it but that's neither here nor there. Plus it's a dollar and the updates are actually on time.

It could always be worse, yknow? At least it isn't Lilith's Throne... yet.

I checked it out and don't feel pushed if your mental health and life is down, you are more important than a game. The game is a good start, you can always get artists or pay for cheap sprites. But as a personal suggestion, don't make it if you're not having fun. I want to make a game, but I also have no motivation to make a game. Kind of in that boat right now (also dealing with work and going to college full time kind of makes for a lack for motivation )

IIRC Zoroj is currently struggling with mental health issues, which is one of the biggest reasons progress on LD is slow. Hyao sincerely wants CGs and art for the main storylines but with Zoroj down in the dumps.. well. We get this instead. He's stated there's been progress, we'll just have to wait to see it's fruition.
Well this may seem harsh, but Hyao should just start to look for someone else to do that work. Mental health is a serious problem, but if that is impeding progress then it's time to look for someone else who can do the work.

personally Hyao should have taken a month off for themselves once zoroj took a couple of months off as well. He's running himself into the ground at this point and the content we've gotten these past months are telling. If he has to get content out there he can get the guest writers for the extra characters to pony up some content to implement IMO.

Your comment is uh...ignorant at best and downright insulting at worse. If zoroj need some time off so be it, he's not some machine to generate porn and hot burly men. Also, Narram is helping to ease the load when it comes to monster sprites while another person is doing material sprites.

Thanks but it was never the game screwing my mental health. Life in generally is boning me, haven't had a "EUREKA!" (when I hammer out tons of work) moment for a while. Still, thanks for the feedback. ^^

I don't think that's the whole picture.
LD is a "text based" game after-all, sure Hyao might get inspiration from Zoroj arts, but he's not creating contents based on them - in fact it's the other way around.
As long as they are trying to figure things out, give them time.
Just hope they don't settle into a monthly milking scheme, like some other projects on patreon.

It could always be worse, yknow? At least it isn't Lilith's Throne... yet.
Well, talking about worse, there's still Blackgate :p

People on this site bitched for DAYS when Narram was first brought on because it wasn't Zoroj.. the artist they got used to.
And Narram wasn't even doing the sprite work for the main characters. I doubt getting someone completely different to replace Zoroj on the main characters/events for the time being would go down well. At all. Anywhere.

You guys think the game needs a human avatar for the protagonist scenes or use the model from the equipment?
Random question
What the Game really needs is a story that doesn't branch out as much as it does now. Too many stories and too little progress in all of them.
I don't think we need an avatar, we need a writer.

Ah, one of my favourite Daddy. I wonder who's the artist, and do they have other projects, kinda weird talented creator just disappear
Come to think about it. LD doesn't have a "Daddy" (Daddy+Son)? The Kinks here are actually quite mild, I think only thing extreme is Barrel :ROFLMAO:

I don't think this game needs that, it does fine without a MC visual presentation.
Hyao chose to not create an avatar to better suit he's situation. A lousy MC customization system "just cause all other game has" will only do harm if the dev is not putting heart into it.
And that's quite an unreasonable request of workload.
That means creating equipment models, and then sprites base on the models, revise all text scenes, and you still can't do CG scenes.
This game can hardly keep going atm
