VN - Ren'Py - Abandoned - Mad World [Release 4.1.0 WIP] [Smoke Mob Games]

At the beginning it was starting off very strong. To a certain point (lets say the first half of the game at the time of this release) there was a very good character build up, a solid start into the story and all in all it was interesting. But then without a warning it all went downhill very fast. It was just so confusing after a while that I just skipped through to atleast enjoy the 7/10 images. It drove itself into a dead end and probably will not recover from a story point of view. It was a really frustrating experience.

Story is sooooo beautiful. I really enjoyed it.
I'm looking forward to the continuation of the your work.

Aimless plot with good images. I expected a lot more from this, but I was extremely disappointed.

The game really doesn't go anywhere, the story is not a unique idea, and it's not executed very well at that in my opinion.

I wanted to like this when I read the overview, I just find very few redeeming qualities in the game, other than decent visuals.

Would not recommend, your time is better spent elsewhere.

This one was weird but good. I like stories about gods and mythical figures so maybe I’m a little biased like that but it was intriguing enough that I want to play the next update. Only 4 games so far I’ve played I though worth paying for and this was one. My only complaint is how some parts seem a bit contrived like how everyone just happens to be connected to this underground magic world but I can excuse it if the rest of the story keeps delivering.

Let's start by saying that the story is amazing, it's something refreshing, the writing is top-notch, it has comedic elements that fit in very nicely, it has some adult themes which is nice to see in a VN, the characters are all different and unique, the models are all great. The only thing that needs improvement is probably the animations, but they're adequate. Genuinely recommend trying this game. Sorry for my punctuation, not a native speaker.

Let's start off by saying I usually don't enjoy playing VNs, but I am very glad I decided to play this one.

I always try to be as objective as possible.

The Story
The story asppears very complex and profound. It definitely got me hooked, mainly because of the amazing characters this game has. However, wether it is going to live up to it's expectations or not is probably too early to tell, it is very enjoyable so far though. I really want to put an emphasis on how great the characters are. Most major charactors are very unique, interesting and likeable. It definitely stands out from most other games I've played.

The Visuals
You can tell that a ton of work was put into the renders. Very detailed scenery, characters intereact with the environment, with makes it feel very alive. Also, though I'd say there are higher resoluted renders out there, characters look very great and, most of all, human, something many 3DCG games struggle with.

The Good Stuff
Some mentioned it before, and I have to point it out again. The feel of the sex scenes is different. They are not porn-y, but rather feel real and authentic. I feel like they really manage to fit the relationship between the characters. Whether that's your style or not is up to you, but it is definitely something that's not so easy find and something that really put the game to the next level for me.
Now, something that I, as a person who cares about visuals quite a bit, have to criticize, is the quality of the sex scenes. I feel like they could look better, both in terms of the graphics themselves and also the animations. They are not terrible, but if you compare it to a game like Treasure of Nadia, it kinda falls short.
Also, I should mention that the quantity of scenes so far is fairly low. Now, this is understandable, because the game puts great effort into telling an authentic story, and throwing in too much random sex would kind of ruin that authenticity. Also, I believe with future updates, as relationships further increase, the scenes will also increase in frequency.

In the end I would recommend this to anyone that's not interested in a quick fap, but is willing to invest a bit of time into a nice story with great characters. It will probably be very worth it.

Oh man this is a fun and cool game. Cool story, the supporting character background stories are great so far. Love the story it is not some bland porn game. It is more of a good strong story with adult elements in it and just enough porn thrown in as it fits the narrative. Personally that is my favorite style versus just the straight up rub one out game (don't get me wrong those are fun too).

This is a really underrated game. It has great dialogue and a slow build for the real relationships. There's sex but it's seen for what it is and everyone acts like adults. Without spoiling too much of the plot, it's a sci-fi action story that I found really compelling. The choices for images are cinematic. There's also solid humor. This could easily be a well-written sci-fi novel. It's nice to see this level of thought going into a game.

Holy shit what happened to this game?!?!

I tried the very first "0.0" release and wasn't impressed with pretty much anything about it. Did the "0.1" update and nothing improved enough for me to care.

Deleted and forgot about it.

For some reason I saw it again recently and read more of the thread and decided to give it a go. Same opening, wasn't hopeful.....then the story settled down and kicked in, and kicked and kicked.

The story seemed too ambitious at first and wobbled but the writing has kept solidifying with each release stage. By playing straight through to this point (3.3.0.0 as of this review) I can see the progress as I play. Story is getting tighter and more interesting.

To be honest, none of the girls are drop-dead-gorgeous, even the one who is supposedly a model, they're ......normal, and that's a good thing. They're very relatable as people you might meet in real life, both in looks and personality. There's no mass hysteria to jump on the MC's dick by every girl, but there is plenty of interest in him and he is kind to everyone (unless they suck ). As much as I love harem games, and want the MC to get with a lot of these girls - there's going to be relationships, not just cum-dumpsters lying around waiting for him to walk into the room WVM-style .

The characters involved on the magic side of things show an interesting diversity of personality, motivation, skill and looks. Definitely a group of people pulled from all walks of life.

The renders are good and the scenery is diverse enough that you don't feel like the story takes place all in one neighborhood block, or one office building.

The one downside, which is minor, is that the MC (at this point) kind of waffles around between being a strong-willed up-and-coming badass,.....and a lazy frat boy. His hearts in the right place, and he tries hard without the self pity so common in this type of story - but he doesn't (hasn't yet) fully committed himself to where he needs to be. I think he's going to settle down and get with it at some point.

One plot point, a major one, is that he only gets the power for a year. I am interested to see what happens at that point. Does he stay on this path, or go back to his old life?

We shall see, we shall see

In one word "fantastic". The story line feels almost realistic. Graphics are more then ok. Some grammar mistakes here and there do not take away from the pleasure of reading.
Plenty of action the choices to yes or no play the game slow burn are just addition to the whole concept.
At times the conversations are just hilarious.

There are many issues with this title as a game such as poor quality renders, strange grammar mistakes (this was clearly translated) and too few meaningful choices.

However, that story... it's fucking good. I was expecting the regular bullshit clichés, but got a series-worthy scenario instead.

A very enjoyable urban fantasy, that kept me playing non-stop to the current end. Some things are done very well: the characters, fight scenes, story. The sex animations are minimal but adequate.

My biggest gripes involve the main character. It is hard to identify with a submissive twit who lets women push him around and dyes his hair pink. He is given a mysterious magical power early on, but is such a moron that he rarely remembers to use it. The MC does grow over the course of the story, and as of the last release he is...less pathetic than he was in the beginning.

There are several minor issues that could be addressed in an update:

• Scene changes aren’t telegraphed properly. More than once I found myself thinking the game had glitched and thrown me somewhere into the story at random. The first time this happened I almost dropped it, thinking it was broken.
• There are numerous grammar issues.
• Long sequences of blank screen when the MC has been blinded, knocked out, or is in the dark need to be filled with something. It is supposed to be a ‘visual novel.’
• Sometimes the dialog drags, when the characters are exchanging banter unrelated to the story.

I am looking forward to further updates. This has the potential to become a first-class game.

I downloaded this game for Chloe and kept playing for Vincent

Really though, my first impression wasn't great, renders were insanely noisy, characters were unexpressive and it felt like the same renders were used way too often in the same scene, but the game is actually quite amazing and will grow on you as you continue.
I benched the game for a while but revisited it and skipped through to see Chloe but Vince vs Rosenburg made me run it back and let myself get invested.
As chapters progress the visuals improve drastically in terms of rendering and expression, this paired with the world building made the game a whole lot more immersive. I haven't seen much action in this type of game before Mad World but the combat is choreographed amazingly, its actually impressive. Seeing Vince noclip through shit is always hilarious and endearing.
If the dev were to rework the intro and apply what they've learned throughout development to the start of the game, I'm confident it'll garner a lot more attention. So long as the story remains consistent, it's only upwards from here.

Even though it is not the prettiest vn out there and there is some minors typos, I find the story really cool and quite original, almost all characters are easily likeable (and there is a serious bunch of badasses)

It is very rare for me to like these games more than what most people think of them is, an alternative for horny people. Also, when there is only a few scenes like there is here, it's almost impossible.

BUT

My gooood is this script good. It's so interesting, every little detail, face expression, it's just.... soo.. sooo good. Dude, you should be selling this to Netflix or HBO or something for a series, as i was playing all i could see was episodes in my head. Also, that throwback to when he just moves in, so epic too. And lastly for this review, the soundtrack is also so good and matching.

Overall, it's criminally underrated, so keep up the good work mate!

I've finished 3.3, and now I'm sad that I have to wait.

The story is good. Very good.
But the characters? I love them. I want them to have happy lives. I feel sad when some of my choices seem to hurt them.

With the right actors, this could probably be a very good show.

Alot of the good parts of the story and characters, comes from all the time spent fleshing them out, in small conversations. All of that is done VERY WELL, which is why I'm sitting here sad, that there is no more story right now.

The only real negative, is that the sex relations sometimes seem abit off? The MC is not exactly that explicit on why he wants to do it, but there is some byplay of him simply being passive in life as a whole, so maybe it just seems off to me.

But seriously, go play it, if you want something with an actual story, where the sex scenes aren't there for you to get your jollies, but rather, make you invested in your choices and the characters.

As a fun anecdote, I had forgotten I was supporting via Patreon, until the author wrote out the names at the end, so that was kinda funny to me.

While animations aren't the best, what this makes up for it is the immersion, world building and story. Every one of the characters has distinct personality and their view of the world. Haven't played something so intriguing in a while. Definitely worth your time.

One of the signs of a great game is being able to binge it without feeling tired. Mad World does exactly that and a whole lot more.

What more does a game need than fantastic characters, a great concept and a beautiful soundtrack? A compelling story and world-building, of course.

With great writing being the cherry on top of the godly cake that was served in more than half a day's worth of content, I highly recommend playing the game. I'm quite excited to see how the plot unfolds. Write on!

Mad World is a VN about a young man who gains the power of a god. It's a really cool premise and had me excited to see what the MC does with it, and then the plot just kind of meanders around randomly. The renders are good. Good use of sound and music. But I got frustrated by the directionless plot, how often the MC does things that don't make any sense to me, and how long the story just spins its wheels until it moves on to the next thing.
