Switching to resolution 1600x900 failed, trying lower one

If that does not work:
Right click desktop and open Nvidia control panel -> Adjust desktop size and position -> Scaling -> No Scaling (Or equivalent for AMD)

Second alternative(Windows 10):
Right click man of the house.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Disable full screen optimization (May force triple-buffering Vsync in Windowed mode when disabled)

Damn that's lots of work to do for one game. Maybe its time to clean up this computer but not right now. And again thank you for helping.
Still struggling?

I finished the download and checked my direct x still getting a lock up with any scenes that have the + and - things
I also tried a new copy of the game using 7zip to extract and with out the inc patch but still locks up ... do you have to keep the girls at basic levels like if you use one more than the others would that be a problem? I just don't know why it keeps locking up I have played version 8.4 and it work good no problems with it ... why does the new updated 9.1 have a problem with my pc...

What I would recommend is checking to see if you might be missing updates for your operating system. After you've installed them, restart your computer and try playing MotH.

I would also suggest making sure your video card is using the latest drivers. Also check your video adapter in Device Manager. If you have 2 adapters showing, try disabling one of them.

If you're using Citrix, that would also affect the animated scenes. Open a command prompt as Administrator and use the following command from the command line:

CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe
DDLOCAL=ReceiverInside,ICA_Client,AM,SELFSERVICE,DesktopViewer,Flash,Vd3d,WebHelper,Br
owserEngine

Please make sure there is a space between "CitrixWorkspaceApp.exe" and "DDLOCAL".

The only changes made were during the overhaul in v0.8.3. So if you were able to get MotH to play from then on until now, then something is going on with the OS.

I just check the video card and or adapter they are good windows said the auto update is good but something about 9 other updates
If they are listed as "optional", install those along with anything listed as important. The only updates you won't need are any language packs (not sure if those are offered in Win 8 or 10 like they are in Win7).

Yes. A restart is required after most updates are installed when prompted to do so. Changes made to the system from the updates won't take affect until then.

If you're using Windows 7, please be aware that after January 14, 2020, you will no longer be able to update that OS as the end of extended support ends on that date. So you will need to migrate to another OS at that time.. like Win 8 or 10 (or Linux if you like). There is an update that was included during the last patch cycle (KB4493132) that will remind you of this. That update isn't needed BTW so you can uninstall it if you want. Unless you want or need the periodic reminder.

If you can take a screenshot of what Windows Update is trying to download, I'll see if it's something you need to have. There may be an offline installer for it/them from Microsoft.

- TPM lockout occurs unexpectedly in Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1

- Update that supports Azerbaijani Manat and Georgian Lari currency symbols in Windows

Unless the second update affects you where you live, you don't need it. So you should be able to hide that update from downloading.

Both links for each of those updates include an offline installer. Neither of those updates are important for being able to play MotH.
