You can always give a utility called wineskin a try. I use that to run this on a Mac. You need to tweak the screen options to get it looking 100%, but even the defaults are playable.

You will also need to use winetricks (part of wineskin) to install corefonts. Otherwise you won't see any of the text

I can't seem to get the winetricks starting to see the text. Could you help?

Yep, it's an infinite loop. No, it's a new bug from V0.5.8. It was already reported but thank you for posting. I'm sure this bug will be exterminated with the next update.
