That being said, I don't believe it's just a matter of "posting a download link and a few previews", considering the time I currently put into my Patreon page. Also, I'm a bit careful about just signing up with any platform as we are dealing with large sums of money here, both my supporters and my own, which makes me rather err on the side of caution.

On the other hand, reading your post, does make me think that maybe I'm seeing more obstacles, than there really are.
It's just that the whole Patreon thing has had me on edge for quite a while.

It's not like you need to make a snap decision here or jump right onto every new bandwagon...
Just something to consider, keep and eye on and see if it can be yet another way to distribute your work without worry of your only source of income going down on you. I remember back to the early days of subscription porn sites that put all their revenue into the Paypal basket on;y to find months later as the Paypal brand grew it started placing a ton of restrictions onto the content you could sell. The closer something comes to be mainstream the further it tends to distance itself from the things that made it a success in the first place.

That may very well be true...But in time if there are so few games there, then people won't go there to find and discover your game. And if this new site does become the Independent Game Development mecca it will turn into the go to place for people looking for this kind of content while this content will get lost and NEVER PROMOTED on Patreon in time in favor of the other less risque content items.

an analogy here would be sure you can buy games in Walmart as they have a game section...But they don't have as many games as Gamespot does who specializes in games. And if you want to look for some new games you have better shot shopping at Gamestop than Walmart who has just a lip service of titles in their store.

Activision was created by a bunch of developers who got together and decided to pool resources to distribute their content.
And Patreon type site totally dedicated to Game Developers would be a great marketplace for your game is basically what I'm getting at here.
