Those who believe "you don't own the games" forget that a torrent can also die, and a pirated version can disappear from the internet. Of course, the chances are slim and depend heavily on the game's popularity, but the likelihood of problems with Steam is also low, and other stores can also block access to purchases, and the smaller the store, the greater the chance of it closing.Lazy twat because I don't want to check if there's an update to one of my thousands of games every day? And like I said, they didn't delete my game, it still works, it was just taken out of my library.
And storing all the downloads on your own requires a hard drive, which costs money and can also fail. Plus, there's the possibility that with a Windows update and hardware update, even if the game files are there, they may stop working.
I store my favorite porn games as pirated versions on my hard drive, in my cloud storage, and on Steam. Even here, it's not 100% safe, but it's close.
What I mean is that everything has its risks: torrents die, file-sharing services delete files and close, as do cloud services, your hard drive dies, Steam can delete/remove it, there is no ultimate solution.
Giving up my hobby because there is a 0.5% chance that something unpleasant will happen is not my choice.
