Great to see a developer mature and humble enough to admit his mistakes and be willing to go back on his decisions to solve problems instead of hiding behind the classic "I'm the dev, if you don't like my game go make your own!" The game is not lost afterall (y).

Alright, he took my advice! :ROFLMAO:

(Yeah, right, he doesn't know me from Adam!)

I think (as I posted earlier) that switching back to Ren'Py is the right decision. I don't think there's anything in MP that would require Unity. I might be wrong, but I doubt it. Just look at what Milfy City and Water World are doing.

..they are working perfectly fine under Ren'Py while still having quality animations. Thats what they are doing
Yes, but I was referring to the quality of the sandbox implementations! :)

Ren'py is perfect for simple VNs as that is its primary purpose. But when these games get more complex, open-world and shit like that, it gets harder to code the bigger the game gets. Unity doesn't. The problem is that Lewdlab is more focused on the rendering part of the game, and instead of learning how to properly work unity himself, he relied on outsourced coders. Well when you do something like that, it comes with its own risks. LL wasn't happy with their work, and this seems to be a regular occurrence. So instead of continuing to be unhappy with what he was doing, he switched to what he was comfortable with. My concern now is how well he will be able to code what is supposed to be a more complex game then DoD, which was often buggy. Small bugs which were easily fixed, but buggy nonetheless.

From a business point of view he made the best decision to keep his "customers" satisfied and the money roll. From a developer/artist point of view, will Midnight Paradise become a second DoD in game design.

All I can see is that the only thing that remains Constant is the bugs! Its presence is in every single game no matter how good of a dev he is..but now what matters is the difference of the bugs that might be contained making games with those engines..But without any doubt Ren'py is much more compact and Reformed from Unity. He made a Right Choice and based on his previous experience i think it adds more pace to Development Cycle!

I really loved Dod, one of the first game i played here . The plot was really so unique , original with a final twist really impressive . Till now the bad end was one of the most successful that i remember in a adult game.
I didn't play till now to Midnight Paradise , i was waiting for more contents before beginning , but reading this thread , i'm afraid that i'll be disappointed from this game ; i'm afraid that also what you wrote before about this switch to another Engine , it show the fear of the Dev to try new roads . I think that i'll wait a little bit more , going on to read your comments , hoping to have some positive surprises

will there be a new thread open
No reason for that.We have plenty of games that switch engine and use same thread. We have even remastered games that still use same thread as the original.

Nothing is as buggy as most new releases of Unity games. It's always better to wait for fixed version of The Twist and Something Unlimited.

I am glad with port back to renpy, i never understood the switch to unity anyway if you are good with 1 thing stick to it. Renpy also plays much better then unity on my system. i still hope he does not take much on his own place since this is no Dream of desire so a quick port is not something you can easily do if are already pretty far with the coding part, just because this works under unity it may not even work right under renpy or vice versa.
