I don't think that knowing whether the cover art character is significant or not spoils anything. While it wasn't my question, I like seeing answers to this sort of thing as it doesn't spoil the plot itself, but can realign expectations with reality if the answer went the other way. Consider that it would be useful to know if the cover art was just a cool render from one scene not really connected to the story.

Some of my worst reading, viewing, and gaming experiences are due to people hyping something up in ways that provide no direction or context for expectations, only to have the actual story fall short by being interesting in a way too different than the expectations.

If I remember correctly you need to read a book on how to fix cables and you need to have gone to the fuel station to get a jerrycan of fuel. You might also need to turn the generator off while you're doing this.

If that isn't it let me know, I'll check if I have a save from that time.
