I've returned. My vacation was very relaxing and after I came back I moved to a new place. It took a while to set everything up again, especially with a few hardware and software upgrades I got for the next game, but now I'm fully settled. Which means that on Monday I will officially start the development for Children of Morn. What does that mean for you?
Time is most important.
I know that everyone wants to see the new game and get their hands on it. Which makes sense and is something I'll take into consideration during this early development phase leading up to version 0.1. What I'll also take into consideration though, is the simple fact that this early preparation phase takes time, a lot of it. I'll have to make new characters, new environments, a new UI, new code, new sounds and new gameplay systems, before I can even start animating the first scenes or write the first lines of dialogue. That's the curse and blessing of 3D Graphics. The preparation takes forever, but after everything is in order the rest goes relatively quickly.
To say it more concisely. Version 0.1 will take quite a lot of time, afterwards the release schedule should be closer to the two/three months between updates you know from MIST already.
Filling the gap.
But of course I don't plan to just stay silent for the next months of development. Instead, I'm planning to start making a bi-weekly development diary on my Patreon. I'll share parts of my process, the current progress, my inner thoughts and ideas in form of text and images. I was also thinking about doing one or two development streams or maybe uploading some timelapses of me working on 3D models, but I'm not sure if there is much interest in it. I'd be happy if you could let me know in the comments if you'd welcome video content for the development.
The diary will both focus on the day to day development, as well as more specific topics like character design or environment design etc. Basically a lot of my design ideas. As a little sneak peek I've also added a

to this text on Patreon. We'll talk more about it when the development diary with a focus on the sound design comes out. For now I can only say that it's from my first recording session for the moans that will delight everyones ears in Children of Morn.
And that's it for today. I'll start working on Monday and two weeks after, you'll get the first Development Diary that will be available on my Patreon. I wish everyone a fun weekend and you'll hear from me soon!"
