did they realise that too many peoples used patreon as a bait for getting money with shit stuff based on porn ?
i guess its possible, and it can be a good decision, but i just hope this didnt gonna put down the good work too.

But if they want to play it safe, couldn't they just make a patch that restores incest in the game and share that outside of patreon? Kind of like what some games do on steam to get around their policies regarding adult content.

I wont get into it here because there is a thread for this to be discussed. As far as we can tell Patreon only cares about the page front, NOT the in-game content. Some creators are just making the change to be safe.

Not so much "cracking down" as choosing to censor. Undoubtedly getting pressure from some legal/political source, but who knows or cares.
