Yes, most skills don't carry over normally but you learn "abilities" via job/race that work as perks you can equip/unequip like gear, some of those perks allow you to use the skills you've learned no matter your current class. There are also accessory scrolls you can equip that does the same.I see, that's interesting. So is there a point to mastering more races? Like with jobs you could gain some skills (e.g. "special skills", such as Defense down from Guard) that are carried over when you switch to other jobs, is there something like that witch races?
Pretty much every job/race unlocks some ability or skill that greatly improves other jobs and races. Like advanced versions of Shield Knight gives you a perk that improves the status from shields, which caries over to any other job that benefits from having a shield equipped. Also there are several skill combos that exponentially improve each other, like combining any iteration of the smile skill that multiply their own actions per turn with "quick word" (from the informant archetype) that spreads that action to the whole party next turn.
