Despite all the pity for Emma and the other characters, I myself, agree with this. All of my characters are intended to not be a perfect person, even the MC himself has a lot of flaws. Flaws create story, flaws are what makes a character interesting, it triggers debate/discussion, at least, for me... They all made mistakes that they need to overcome in their current lives. You may hate them because of it, but that what makes them a human. They, themselves will make that hate into love as the game goes on. And that's what the game is all about. No, you don't really get what we are thinking. You are missing the point we are making here. It's not that we can't let go of what they did in the past. We can, we do. This is not about forgiving what they did.
Right now as they are, they are the same people. They were codependent back then they are codependent now. Sure they say they regret what they did in the past. But Emma brought eye of sauron back on Kei to help Aine. Their priorities are still each other. They need to grow and change before there can be a path to relationship (at least for me that is).
[That said, I am fully aware that some of the issues comes from restraints of storytelling. Congrats to Niichan for triggering this type of discussions on make believe characters that we can treat as actual human beings with agency.]
Those who couldn't get the message of the story, will surely hate it. And I saw a lot.
