Shit, I burned my left thumb making popcorn for the wife, need to find a new way to type... grrrr...

As a was about to say... ouch... Marthians, we are under siege. Even our dear ... ouch ... Trope is shooting memes to our beloved. We need ... ouch ... a new plan to bring forth the supremacy of our ... ouch ... Lady.

I really don't get it.

Apparently, most people don't consider Portuguese people as Latinos. Not even Brazilians. Sometimes not even Spaniards. Yet, they consider the Natives of Mexico and so on, as Latinos, but, NOT the Natives of North America to whom they are quite closely related.

This makes no fucking sense.

Anyway, Martha, isn't really a Latina. Neither is Norah, or any of the girls, except Alexia. But, even Alexia, in spite of being Latina, bares one particular characteristic that is very rare in that ethnicity, the mighty Yeti.

Anyway, leaving all that aside, the broad term "Latinos" is a terrible mess and it very much means very different things depending where you're from.

In California it generally means South-of-the-border types. Whereas Spanish / Portugese etc would be more "hispanic". But I've seen a Latino get totally confused when someone who he thought was another Latino couldn't speak any Spanish (because he was actually a Tamil from India.) So, assumptions. :)

Calling a Portuguese, "Hispanic" is a good way to get a black eye. Free of charge even... LOL We do it when you guys come here and say "Gracias", imagine if you call us "Hispanics", oh boy...

As e6mill said, some Americans from "Hispanic" families -- and most other Americans who think they know what makes someone Hispanic -- think (i.e. assume) anyone with the Mexican/Central American-type skin tone (and hair to a lesser extent) is probably "Latino" ... and anyone who has "white" skin or "black" skin, or East Asia facial structure, is not.

We, the ones born in Latam would be "Latinos" which clearly excludes central America and Mexico, anyway it is also used to adress those whose Language has its roots in Latin (you call it Romanic language roots) this last group includes "Rumanian" and French as well, besides Spanyards, Portuguese, and Italians, But excludes the Basque.
But that is how we use it.
I was merely doing what I love to do bantering with Txe300 :ROFLMAO:

Even the Latinos have problems with that. There's a Spanish (female) tiktoker who 'interwiews' south/central American guys (mostly in their 20s) and starts the interview with "would you date a Latina?". The answer is always (in the released videos) in the lines of "Of course". Then she asks "Then would you date me?" And the guys are usually puzzled going from the "you aren't a Latina" to the usual "you stole our gold and now you want to steal our identity". She then explains, with a lot of patience, why Spaniards, Portuguese, French, Italian, etc. are the real Latinos.
Most of the guys end up puzzled. Some of them go unpolite or even rabid (usually the "you stole our gold" type).

Btw, Portuguese are Hispanic. Hispania covered the full peninsula. Not Spanish, though.
