#5 in the John Carter of Mars series. #1 of which is Princess of Mars. They've held up more-or-less OK, but after the first several (there are 11 books) it gets to be a bit of a slog. :)
I looked it up on Wikipedia. There are indeed some Italian publications. However, I have never met anyone who has mentioned it to me. And until I was 35, I was very passionate about fantasy.

They are completely unknown in Italy. Never heard of them. But incredibly... And I repeat, incredibly... in Italy we know pineapple pizza. I would have preferred to know that saga.
They even made a movie!

Gino, the Love Interest is one of the BEST FMC's EVER in literature. She's not a Damsel in Distress, she's a Warrior, a damn good one.

This, to me, is better than Tarzan the other rather well known work of Edgar Rice Burroughs. There's another series that I also loved, Pellucidar. It is worth reading it all.

Peace :)

Sacrilegious!!!

Joking aside, Edgar Rice Burroughs is an author to be reckoned with, just one name: Tarzan.
I don't know what to say. Every country has its own peculiarities. I mentioned La Linea earlier. I don't think everyone knows it. And we know little about that saga. I say little because there is more than one publication, so I imagine that if they made more than one, it means that it sold well enough. But not enough to be famous.

It is a bit of a niche thing. ERB was known by it's Tarzan books, so much so, that the town he lived in, even changed it's name to Tarzania. But, the John Carter of Mars series, in spite of selling well, and having a rabid following, didn't appeal to the mainstream. Anyone really into Sci-Fi of the Golden Age, knows about it, but it is not as widespread as Tarzan.

Dejah Toris, or D.T., or DeeTee, is mentioned in many other books. One of the most famous is "Number of the Beast" by Robert Heinlein.

If you can, read it in English. I am sure that there is an omnibus edition in epub somewhere in the Internet. :D

Peace :)

It actually didn't completely suck even! I was a bit shocked. OFC they had to make Dejah an awesome swordswoman and I found it utterly unbelievable that a civil war era Southern gentleman would joke about hiding behind her in a fight. :eyeroll:
The worst thing about the movie is that Dejah Thoris wasn't costumed the way she was in the books - just wearing jewelry.
