Vivian's guilt plays an important role for Christian's character as well.

Mostly agree. I would add that normally a woman will not stay with a man if she realizes
she cannot trust him to have her best interest at heart
she cannot respect the man she has come to know him to be, which is not the same as what she first thought.

A woman does not respect a man because he enforces his will upon her or other people. She respects a man when she finds goodness in his heart, which test Boss is going to fail badly. Forceful men can have good hearts, but force is not the requirement. Except that some women are attracted to power, and others can find the presence of wealth in itself to be sexy. Goodness can then be seen as an impediment to wealth and power. I don't think those are what Wife is about.

None of which means that she will not crumple and allow herself to be degraded. That is the climactic scene that waits in coming chapters. Will she/won't she? I think that if guilt would motivate her then, it would motivate her now. It would help her think more clearly if she could be free of the guilt, which Sunshine has helped to do. Think more clearly because then she would not be so vulnerable to Boss's manipulations.

I think those dinner scenes show Wife's thinking. She thinks that by chastising him, he will start being less of an asshole. His response is to not try to get her to go to a fancy hotel with him. He is obviously taking her home. She responds by taking his dick out and caressing it and sucking it. He takes her home, gets her undressed, starts fucking her. She is still trying to get him to treat her better. He throws her out of the car and demands to hear her say she likes sex with him.

That was her fist attempt to get him to show goodness. The second is where she delivers her demands at the end of chapter 2. Her hope is that in return for saying he owns her, he will cease to be an asshole. My suspicion is that he is not one bit interested in complying. Negotiation, accommodation, compromise are the cores of a successful relationship. Boss is not going to do any of that. He is going to attempt to force her, and he will not really care how she feels about it. Storm clouds loom.

I'm not sure how common that type is. But then there are also the drunks, the gamblers, the profligates, the abusers, the philanderers, the criminals.

As they say in AA, if spouse won't get sober for himself, he sure as hell isn't going to do it for you or anybody else.

The point is that right now, Wife is thinking that for her, Boss will cease to be an asshole.

Also significant in this effort is her statement that she realized that Boss could not break her. Being sent to be raped, being raped could not break her. So Boss asks, what do you want from me. Wife says: "I want you to be gentle and loving with me." Typically for him, Boss takes that as a request for gentle sex. Wife is saying she wants more than the great sex. She wants to be romanced. To feel loved. And she gives her demands of what she will not accept from him.

Do not be mean to Husband.
Do not ever mention the escort event again.

I would give Boss credit for also having what he will not accept from Wife. Wife continues to defend husband, goes home to him at night. And then there is that disgruntled look and response when she reminds him that his place in her hierarchy is somewhere below Husband's (but remember...). Is Boss going to be willing to accept that?

If it were me, I would think it fair to say, if you want me to love and romance you, then you need to ditch Husband. Really. That must at least be a point of negotiation between Boss and Wife as part of deciding exactly what their relationship is and where they agree they are going with it. Wife responds, if you want to be supreme in my life, then you need to... Fair enough. Let's talk more about this tomorrow. Right now, let's have more of that delicious sex. I'm not sure about you, but I don't think I could live without it. Loving inside you is simply the most wonderful feeling... C'mon Boss how did you get to be 35 without knowing how to talk to a woman? That's the thing about love and sex. It sounds corny, unless it is true. Who knows, but if SC wanted to make something of the Boss/Wife relationship, he could find grounds for that I think. During that magical first night, Wife was screaming her head off with pleasure. I did not say it was likely that Boss wants to get married. It said it was as likely as the Husband/wife reconciliation. Not likely at all. But I think we really know nothing of where SC is going at this point.

It is like the ending of the movie Days of Wine and Roses. Husband is a recovered alcoholic. Wife has been unable to recover. It appears she is suppoting her drinking with prostitution. She gets sober and comes to visit him, and asks that he take her back and they be as they were at first both enjoying drinking. Husband, of course, cannot do that. She cannot ask that of him. So she leaves and returns to the life she has been leading. Husband is watching from his upstairs window as she crosses the street. He cries out to her, his voice full of deep anguish.

Because, he intensely knows that he shares responsibility for her downfall. She did not drink before he introduced it to her.

If you cannot feel the tragedly and the sorrow in this situation, then, yeh, you have been burnt. Human downfall with no possibility of recovery is a deep tragedy every single time. As Husband knows, he cannot join her, cannot give up his sobriety. But still he cries out.

One must conclude that life is not fair. It was fair of her to ask, fair of him to refuse. But life is not fair for situations like this to happen to people. Who was it that decided that the price of feeling good should be so devastating? Step up and take your licks, god.
