depending whether old version is abandoned 2.1 or one of the REVAMPs. 2.1 and REVAMPs are not compatible. If you talking about REVAMPs you basically just end up with 2 games old version lets say .78 and new version .82
I didn't run into any issues but I also did not do any of Amy's stuff in 0.83a but waited until 0.83.5 since it was an Alpha release and I was busy working on my Strategy Guide for the parts before the Mafia choice on 0.83a and that may be the issue for some. If any more Alpha releases get leaked maybe people might take more precautions with their save files or better yet, just wait until the full public release.

The first time you see the lady in front of the market it has to be on a certain day and time. I think on a Wednesday or Thursday. But after that she's there every day.
As far as Rachel goes, that's the way the game is--when you click on her nothing happens. Have you did her in your hospital room after Jack put you in the hospital? That's all there is, though you can visit her at her home at 15:00. I don't remember about Brenda, but if you have finished all her of her quest and are now visiting her in her home for fun, you could use a save editor and set Brenda to 50 in variables.
For you to be able to use a save slot, the save slot needs to be "enabled" ingame. Take the save you want (say, file4), move it out of the game's save folder. Run the game. Make a save in the slot 4. Quit the game. Grab the file4 that you want to use, move it back to the game's save folder, replace when asked.
Friend, I'm almost sure you are playing the original version of the game, which was abandoned by the developer. This thread is for the revamped version. I say that because it's not the first time that I see you asking about things that were in the original game, but not in revamped. The story is the same, but the revamped version is more consistent (no sudden changes of personality), more streamlined, easier in most aspects, and less buggy (I didn't say bug free)
I think by "version" you mean the original and the revamped. The orginal and the revamped are different games as far as the engine is concerned, you can't take saves from one to another. If you mean 2 different versions of the revamp (say, 0.82 and 0.83.5), then you can just copy your whole save folder and paste it in the equivalent location in the new game's version.
Could you develop a bit more on "beth's quest glitched out"? And with Debbie ("the lady in front of amaria market"), you can meet her anyday during the morning at monday, tuesday or wednesday for the first time. Second time has to be on thursday or friday. Third time onwards can be any day. 4th onwards you'll need a car. You get car trough story progression. When she offers to pay for the gas, refuse. When talking to her, choose literature, she says she wants a book (Star Dreams). Get it from a shelve in commercial neighborhood west comic store, and give her another ride.
If you want to send me your save, I can poke it and see what I can do. But variables with Nadine's name are 203 (tracks her relationship, maxed at 30); 248 (tracks her quest, maxed at 50); and the switch 81 (switch, not variable, and it registers if her content is complete).
I'm not 100% about what I'm saying, but I think Rachel progresses along with the main story, so I think it's safe to ignore her Bookof Faces. As for Brenda... the only variable I can see with her name is her quest variable (251 BrendaQUEST). Mine is set to value 50. That's how far I can go here.
