The niche fetishes are actually where the money is. You ever wonder how porn companies with their videos all on on pornhub for free actually makes money? They upload the more tame or vanilla stuff to pornhub, then if someone has a more niche fetish they charge them for that. While there aren't a lot of people who get turned on at the though of women castrating them, for those that do, there aren't a lot of offerings for that content. So, if they were going to support anyone it would be him and most likely since nobody else is making castration content, they REALLY want him to continue. If he would have waited despite the low effort he put in, he probably would have gathered a fair amount of support, not from the guys who donate $2 to a bunch of patreons, but the guys that REALLY want this and are willing to throw down $100/month for this one thing. So, even if you only have 10 people supporting it, that's $1,000/month, which is pretty good for a patreon.
I really don't care about this whole Patreon business, my point was to call out people who criticize femdom games for having "evil, shallow" characters, a trend that is unfortunately growing from what i can see. If the guy expected more money and cancel the whole thing then that's his problem, shame that a good game got abandoned but there's nothing to do about it, everyone makes his own decisions.

Well, the key there is it isn't consensual and it isn't BDSM. Also, my game does not promote cheating and while coercing students using your authority is illegal, sex between two consenting adults is not. The devil is in the details, and that is kind of what I was getting at. A husband who is begging his wife to dominate him is not the same as a wife who violently assaults her husband on a regular basis and assumes him being too afraid of her is the same as consent.

Way to oversimplify. Essentially the three heroines are pretty generic as far as characters, utterly replaceable and interchangeable. Everyone wanted the sister's to be stronger characters with actual personalities. When they tried to convey it in as respectful and helpful of a manner as they could the author threw a fit and quit. Negative feedback is nothing strange for an author, I have plenty of people who dislike aspects of my game and I try my best to take their advice under advisement and really consider the points they bring up as to how it could improve. Every author does that, this author was unwilling to take feedback from people who liked his game and wanted to see it improve, so what was honest feedback quickly turned into simply bashing the author after he left due to a clear unwillingness to compromise on a clearly flawed game.

Fact of the matter is if you don't have good characters you won't be as engaged in the plot the scenes won't seem as sexy because you're so disconnected that things will seem creepy rather than appealing.
I agree with you there I just tried it out and I was a little thrown off with the sisters and Mari. They just seemed like unhinged characters who's thought process I could never fathom.
