Why make a censored porn game? I really don't get that
The sale and distribution of pornography in Japan is restricted by Article 175 of the Penal Code (1907):
Whoever distributes, sells or publicly displays any obscene document, drawing or other thing shall be punished by imprisonment not exceeding two years, or by a fine not exceeding two and a half million yen. The same applies to those who possess such things with the intention of selling them.
This provision was amended in 2011 to include "recording media containing [obscene] electronic or magnetic recordings" and documents distributed electronically.
The definition of "obscene material", which does not appear in the law itself, has evolved through a series of court decisions. In the Chatterley case [example], Japan's Supreme Court upheld the convictions handed down in 1957 against translator Sei Ito and publisher Kyujiro Koyama, accused of publishing D. H. Lawrence's erotic novel Mrs. Chatterley's Lover in 1950. In its judgment, the court applied a three-part obscenity test established by the Supreme Court in 1928, according to which a work is considered obscene if it "
arouses and stimulates sexual appetite, offends the general sense of shame and violates reasonable notions of sexual morality." As a result of this legal interpretation, most pornographic works produced in Japan are subject to self-censorship, often with digital mosaics and/or censor bars on the genitals.
As you can see, this law is not very clear, and the self-censorship of works is open to interpretation and very different from one work to another.
Indeed, there are works where the censorship is finely mosaicked, allowing the shapes of the penis or vagina to be seen more clearly, while others may represent large mosaics where you can see almost nothing through them.
In South Korea, instead of mosaic, they hide the private parts in white, which is personally more pleasant to look at than when it's pixelated, in my opinion.
