Weekly Update - April 6th, 2025

Still tryin' to hop on that Steam Train!

Good luck with the Steam release.
My snarky side kinda wants to say “just click the options that obviously lead to sex scenes”. But I wanna play nice with the platform that’s gonna be selling my game, so I’ll do more than just point them toward the built-in walkthrough system.
I think it's wise to don't try to push the people than can accept or reject your project.
It's remind me the few times I came in the US before I get the Canadian citizenship, back in the 2000's.
I had to answer a MCQ with question like "Did you participate in the Nazi crimes during WW2?" and "Do you plan to commit any crime or take part in any illegal activity during your stay in the US?".
My father was BORN during the WW2. And sure, if I was a criminal, I will certainly claim it at the custom... I had to resist a bit to not answer stupidly to these stupid questions. But then I remembered I wasn't so sure about US Customs' sense of humor and wasn't so thrill to visit the US Custom's cell, so I play it safe :)

I’m also not quite sure how I’m gonna go about releasing Book Two. Release chapter-by-chapter like with Mythos? Put it up as Early Access on Steam while I do that?
I fear putting Book Two as early access on Steam will add more pressure on you.
But I'm not in your shoes, it's difficult to give you a good advise.

The reason they're asking such questions is less that there are people that are really that stupid, and more that lying on such documents is a federal crime (carries up to five or eight years imprisonment, IIRC) - so they get another thing they can (threaten to) charge you with. And there are things that aren't illegal, or that might not fall under federal jurisdiction, but which could get you into non-judicial trouble (or be refused entry, in this case) if you admitted them, and if you lied about they could charge you. (Not a lawyer, mind you, just peripherally aware of it)

And yeah, agreed on not antagonizing them when there's such a power imbalance, even if they deserve the snark :ROFLMAO:
(And in the case of Steam, they probably want check the game with the least amount of time/effort/thought required - the walkthrough requires reading, a sequence of choices to take can be followed much more quickly)

Nice to read another one of your log Nine; glad to know the Steam process is going smoothly. Also that is pleasing to know that you got to experience NSP, as am a admirer of their acoustics didn't know you listened to them, but probably shouldn't come as a surprise as think you a nice taste in music(yea got to know from your Spotify wrapped xD). But yea overall glad that you and Morgi had tons of fun!

Thanks for reading Dev, best wishes for ahead:)

Okay, I have no idea how I missed this first time around, but I picked up on it during the ending:

Agent 8699? Hah hah, it's a joke, there's a 69 in there. Right?

No. It's a Get Smart reference, isn't it?

Also, I'm happily smug at the moment, as I nailed the solve in one try (though admittedly, while I've suspected Cecil for a very long time, I was assuming it was a dementia-based accident and a follow-up cover up rather than a deliberate murder attempt and faking the kindly absent-minded old man persona). And I was pretty much right about Becki with an I (and her demon dog), though you can continue to be proud because I completely missed the other name connection. And while I didn't have Rin's exact species pinned down, I did predict she was going to be the thief cat... after she stole our shirt.

Love the Clue ending, it's one of my favorite movies. Now all you have to do is base Book Two on Big Trouble and Little China and I may start suspecting that you're secretly me from a parallel universe.

I accept if you disagree with me, but I still think Disney's approach to the issue is cynical. To me, it's like Nine in Mythos including werewolves after all, because a lot of people want them, but doing it in a way that makes it clear that she's not serious about it. (This is what I was trying to refer to with the video above.)

At the end of the day they are a corporation, which is inherently soulless and exists only for profit and shareholder value. So it's not like you are wrong -- it's less of a disagreement than being sad about it. I didn't pay enough attention when the emoji was picked.

But; I also acknowledge I am also trigger happy when responding to the whole "anti-woke" crowd (which I do not know if you are or are not) for a number of reasons I have no desire to debate on F95 about. Thanks for your reasonable reply.

I'm not anti-woke. As a straight white male, I could say I don't care about the issue, but... historical experience shows that if people start discriminating against others on any basis, sooner or later I'll end up in a concentration camp too.
(Sorry Nine, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I just found that video and thought it was funny.)

That is a Get Smart reference, yes! :) It was my favourite show as a kid.

Regarding species: Rin isn't exactly "the cat", she was behind the various thieveries. She stole the video game shirt, B's hoodie, Becki's tights, and someone's burger at the gala! Granted, she stole the burger herself, but the rest were here feline minions.

I actually have no idea who CeCe is, that's not a cameo... o_O That's just Rin. I made Rin completely out of assets I owned at the time, and apparently, early Rin looks a lot like a character in another game. That's part of the reason why Rin no longer has a ponytail.

I don't think I could have handled putting any more characters into this render, at the time, because I didn't know how to make more complicated scenes work. I just wanted to have the Come Home/Reba connection out there.

... I have a feeling I missed something?

Incidentally, I don't think anybody "anti-woke" would be playing Mythos. I'm a queer minority dev, after all - they'd probably hate me.

I'm anti-woke, but what I've played isn't what I consider woke. You're not hitting us in the head, screaming at us about LGBTQ issues/things. You're also not pushing the agenda constantly like a few AA/AAA games have been lately(Veilguard for one). What you are doing is writing an interesting story. Unlike said game above. Just my 2cents.

I mean ... she's wearing bunny slippers ... (my left sig gif is what I thought she was a cameo for ...)
