Great update Jonesy. Personally, I have no issues with anything so far in the game. I can see where some may have issues with where you ended the update and what occurred, however I have a good idea where you might be going with it, and if I'm right in my thoughts it's a good plot point. Can't wait for the next update and have yourself a happy new year.

Damn. I cannot believe the criticism I have read about this game. The premise is not real and could easily have slipped into meet and fuck territory, but the dev has actually made three dimensional characters. I am actually invested in the story. The ending was a payoff set up earlier on and fits the narrative and world building.

Keep going, dev. I will gladly support you if you keep the game going!

Its insane to me that a dev makes a first good game with a heavy focus on incest and then later sabotages his own game with this stepcest shit.
You know about law/rule changes, right? Many devs either left Patron, or got banned due to incest, rape, and a few other tags like that. And there are many other sites who are also conforming to the law changes to keep from being shut down.
Go look at any major porn site and try to search for "brother" or "sister" or "rap." It will pop up a notice saying you searched for something not allowed or it will just say it didn't find anything. So...they reword it to "landlord" or "roommate" or just through "step" in front of it, to get around that. The dev is sabotaging their own game. They're conforming to prevent getting banned, blocked, booted, etc.

They were three-dimensional before. It is not like you have to pick between a lighter story and no traumatic story beats, you can have both. And more than that, you can have both AND still have three-dimensional characters. That is what the first game was.

Overview:
New Year's Day(e) is the continuing story of a single father (MC) and his stepdaughters,
Evelynne (Eve) and Dayton (Daye) and their friends Becky and Kaylee.
This is the sequel to the story "Christmas Eve". If you haven't read that,
I encourage you to read it first, but it's not absolutely necessary in order to enjoy this story.
This is a love story of acceptance, coming of age,
and healing as the MC's family and friends continue to come to terms with their developing
feelings for each other and their grief felt for the MC's late wife, Heather.

OK, I like what the author is conveying in these 2 stories however what gets me is in the Western Hemisphere and most western european countries when you turn 18 you are a Legal Adult and your parents cannot force you to do anything legally.

Additionally, when you are physically abused and accosted by them, you can and should involve the police and medical authorities to 1) get it on record, and 2) get a restraining order against the perpetrator. For your own protection.

Also, I know this just a story but I wish more authors would take a more realistic approach when a friend or parent of the daughters friend see's the abuse like a drunk parent like in this story, take definitive action to disallow that type of action instead of giving in to non-action. It makes it just as easy for the story. In this case, Kaylee simply does not leave the house with her abusive mother and the police are called. Mother is therefore dealt with and Kaylee still has her new family.

Sorry, but these kind of stories really effect me due to personal experiences.

Good luck in the future.

Seems like this game is not going in the same direction as the first, such a shame. Oh well cant win them all. Guess i'll check back in a few updates to see if its worth continuing or not. Its a real shame as I really enjoyed the first game.

I added the age choice to the "no-step" patch posted by TomHook. (The age choice script above didn't have the "no-step" corrections).

So THIS IS THE ULTIMATE incest and age patch for v.0.1. UPDATED: v.0.3

It's really not necessary, as there are just 3 phrases saying (1) "stepdad", (2) Eve is 20, (3) Daye is 18 - at the start of the game. But just in case...

Save it as "script.rpy" and replace the original "script.rpy" in "games" folder. (First make a backup of the original file just in case).

Also here is a tiny little mod for better dialogue style (a bit larger text, thick outlines, a wider and transparent textbox). It works well for screens like 16:9 or 16:10. It works for most other Ren'Py games as well. Just save it as "say.rpy" (or whatever) and drop it into "games" folder. To remove it: remove "say.rpy" and "say.rpyc" from "games" folder.
Hi, I and Incorporated your age choice, though I haven't fully implemented it in dialogue yet as I didn't find it until after I did a full overhaul. So thanks for that and you can expect it to come into play next update.

I understand where you are coming from. You can be not liking the very serious themes added in this game. I think it was a way for the author to make the game more complex than "all women in MC's life fall at his feet and swoon," which by the way is what is happening in the game. Are there not any other eligible men in town? Regardless, what you said is measured and makes sense, so I wasn't criticizing those sentiments. The clowns whose posts are full of histrionics and 'betrayal' that the author would tell a contrary story to their liking is what I was referencing.

Thanks for your perspective!

Yeah, I absolutely adored the first game and when this is one is good, it's great, but I have to say I truly hate all the extreme trauma. It utterly kills the mood for me and all it leaves me with is a bad taste in my mouth and it actually DECREASES my desire to keep finding out what's going to happen.

I don't get it, have people forgotten that you can have drama and excitement without resorting to the worst inhuman depictions of cruelty imaginable? What's next, explicit gore scenes? I just feel like it's such a tonal mismatch too. I seriously hope there won't be much more of that kind of stuff because it's certainly not what I "signed up for" when I started playing this title.

*Jonesy* Did you consider to open a subscribestar Page? I was subbed there on your patreon but I want to remove the porn subs on my patreon and separate them with substar.

Came for wholesome story, left with emptyness... Idk what to say about the ending of ch3...
The good feelings I got while playing through ch3 were destroyed at the end...

it's pretty much standard at this point if you don't know what to do, just throw in some rape to get the ball rolling again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

its pretty much what every dev does if he doesn't want to think about how the story could progress organically.
