Nope, tha family surname was Steele. McGee is the surname that is filed in his birth sertificate.

Ok as for the name "Hasler" I have no idea where that name came from because both MC and Lizzy have the same father.
Birth name for MC is McGuire, Russell McGuire and Jeane had Brian 2 years before they had Lizzy.
Jeane went to the Steele's and had Brian then got them to adopt Brian and raise him.
Jeane went back to Russell and had Lizzy with him so her last name should be McGuire.

My Guess would be that Jeane used her Maiden name for Lizzy? (The asshole basically left her after, during Lizzy pregnancy calling her a baby machine or something similar.) so she might have decided to use her own surname for Lizzy, instead of her deadbeat ex-BF.

OK I now see Jeane Reese... so I'm stumped...Maybe the dev got a bit confused...It would make more sense if Lizzy and Brian had different fathers.

No that is not true either for Jeane last name at the time of birth is Reese.

The only thing I can think of is Jeane got married and the guy adopted Lizzy, after Russell left Jeane and Lizzy.

Saw it just after I posted. So, I think maybe developer got confused. Personally I would prefer 2 different fathers, making them half siblings. Would fit in better with the story IMO.
