Even if "awesomenest" is not a word, the rest of what you say is valid. Most people do not realize, but the ending of a story is by far the most difficult part to write. This is one reason that many games never get finished (besides burnout). Plus the writer knows everything is coming to an end. That is difficult for them, as well as the players.Do you realize that the game was completed less than a year ago and only 28 reviews of the total 104 are newer than the final release of the game?
A lot more than a half of the reviewers couldn't possibly finish the game because the game itself wasn't finished when they reviewed it.
However, the story is pretty good, at least compared to about 99% of all the games you can find on F95. Whether you like it or not is just a matter of taste.
Maybe not the awesomenest (is that a word?) ending imaginable, but at least it has an ending (instead of being abandoned or cut short) and not the worst I've seen. From what I remember I actually kind of liked it.
In many ways, it is better to write the ending of a story first, and then start the story.
And by the way... in the future I would just say "not the most awesome". That comes from FAR too much proofreading
