The incest patch is not necessary for this game at all if that's your concern. In the original earliest version it may have been there, but obviously Patreon doesn't like that so if it was there, it was changed. However, there's no downgrade in the story whatsoever. The story is excellent regardless and honestly I think it might even be better without the patch here. Just follow the guide to keep all routes going and you'll get the best and true ending of the game.
I actually felt not having the patch improved the story, at least for me.

I understand you in a way. I played both and I think the story made sense both ways but some dialogues made slightly more sense with the patch, so it's why I say it's slightly "better" with it in my opinion.

That said, it's one of the rare game where with or without, the story make a lot of sense and isn't drown in the landlady type of things.

This is one of the reasons I dislike the path mechanic in this game and Eternum. Feeling glued to a walkthrough makes games unfun for me. Like I ended up losing the Dahlia path for teasing her at one point. Though I could have rewound to that point, I just decided to accept fate.
So I don't really see myself reaching the true ending on my first finished playthrough here.

I haven't played Eternum yet, so I can't speak about that, but most games in this type of genre are very similar with these "guide/true ending is best, but not always easy to get" sort of thing, so I get it.

I will say that for OIAL a lot of major choices are obvious in the sense that choosing to leave a girl behind or choosing to stop talking to her is probably a bad idea. There is a points system too so you can also almost immediately see how you choice will impact that point system and then hit back if you don't like it. The option is there. There are some other choices though that will have more of an impact than you'd think later on so there is some semblance of replayability to look forward to just to see everything if you play without the guide. In my case, I wanted to only see the true ending since most of the others didn't appeal to me at all.

This is Caribdis' first game, so do keep that in mind too if you're coming from Eternum. A lot of people rave about Eternum, but OIAL is where Caribdis got his footing down, and I would imagine it has more flaws than Eternum and will not be as polished to someone coming from Eternum. To me though OIAL is definitely one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had in general when it comes to the story, characters, and humor. It's a great one for sure.

I asked before but didn't get a reply, so can someone explain the 'paths'?
There are seven in total but only the four on the left have numbers to them.

Think of the right three as "side girls", even though there's a (sort of cut and pasted) dedicated ending for each one. They're interested until they aren't. If you're interested, just check their status after any decision involving them, and if you lost them, back up to before that decision.

The left four are "mains". You can lose them, too (save your game before any decision), but they also have point totals, and you can be missing a point or two and still keep their path until the end (and in at least one case, you have to if you're going for the all-seven ending). But if you can get points with one of them without costing yourself points on anyone else, and you don't, that's a good spot to rollback and retry.

Behind the scenes: I suspect Caribdis intended a points scheme for all seven and just ran out of energy on the last three and also realized it wasn't really necessary for the mechanics he wanted.

ok, thanks. that last thing you said sounds about right. I'm going into the final showdown and I believe all seven are on board (or will be on board the plane after the showdown)...only one I'm not clear on is Iris as there doesn't seem to be much content with her (though what there was was great). Pretty sure Rebecca is also on board.

Came here after playing Eternum and what a fantastic game. I spent my entire day off playing the whole thing from start to finish. I haven't found many VNs that can strike this blend of genuine moments and humour while still being an H game.
I did run into some awkwardness in the late game though since I named my MC Magnus. Couldn't figure out if it was a coincidence or Lord Magnus just shared whatever name you set for your MC.

I love this game. I've played it several times. I do have a nitpick with it though. I find myself editing the script.rpy constantly to change the American slang to British slang since it's supposed to take place in Britain. Little things like gas when it should be petrol, bro when it should be bruv, small things like that.

Wow. I got here after playing Eternum and, hell, I like this game so much more. Sure, it's older, simpler, and rougher on the edges, but characters were right up my alley. MC is more of a man, less of a pushover, and girls are still exceptional yet more flawed, which makes them more human. And I love it. No forced - to stay in harem path - rape bullshit is a huge plus, too.

comes up as having a trojan embedded in the executable? View attachment 5377115
Last time I've played didn't have any virus, still, if you believe it isn't false positive, just use the report button and say which mirror you used for the uploaders team to check the file.

The game definitely didn't have any virus, so it's probably a mirror issue. If that happens with every mirror, then just update your antivirus.

Just finished this game after getting to the end of chapter 8 in Eternum and WOW. This game was really, really good. The story was good, even had a couple of twists I didn't see coming as usually VN's are insanely predictable. The endings were great.

Gas is 100% always petrol, (unless you are learning to drive... for some insanely cringe reason all the instructors I had referred to the throttle as the "gas pedal" or the "gas") but bro is absolutely not always bruv. It's also almost entirely a London thing, its way more of a friendly term between male friends. Seems more common amongst black or asian people. There is no way bruv should be used in this game, no girl would call her brother bruv... at least, afaik. But I don't live in London so could be very wrong about this. I could never imagine Julia or Lauren ever saying bruv, just doesn't fit their character at all. I live in the UK and I only know a single person that says bruv, he lived in London for a lot of his life. Everyone else I know says bro or brother, as a term of endearment between friends or just for respect.

I do agree though, I have never played a VN set in the UK that uses proper British spelling and slang and it annoys the crap out of me!

So some scenes don't play, the ones of the main character having random flashbacks or memories. Like when you're gonna get shot by the japanese guy you have the memories of your dad and what not and when you're about to enter the mansion it says I just saw the book but it doesn't play any scenes. This is on a fresh download
