Learned so much about Renpy modding over the last month that I decided to rework my gallery unlock mod. Now scenes can be selectively unlocked and the mod itself does not overwrite any game files. Really looking forward to the continuation of the story.

Mod here.

I'm gonna bump the next dev update to the fourth, because I'll have more to report on then. Last week was very productive, but I've had to deal with some family stuff this week (monkey in the middle of my parents divorce. Changing accounts into different people's names because they aren't tech savvy enough to do it at their age). Dad is also not taking the whole thing too great as well. So, I've spent a little more time with him the past week than I normally would.

Don't get me wrong I've gotten plenty done, but I need to catch up on some rendering. So, rather than retreading the majority of what I told you last time, I'm gonna wait another week and do the dev update on Sept. 4th.

As always, hope you are all doing well! Cheers!

A version of this render will be in the next update, but I liked it quite a bit. So, I did a 4K version for the render of the the month, with some additional post work.

Hope you guys like it, enjoy! Oh, and I know I said I'm pushing the dev update to next week, but just a short for you top tier people. We're over 1000 renders and 4000 lines of code. More to come next week! Cheers!

Dev Update #59 (Progress)

Figured I couldn't go wrong with a close up of Sam for a promo, she thought that same!

Alright, we are at 1493 renders, 21 animations and 4738 lines of code! That's with the last three scenes of the first day still needing to be set up and rendered. Then, I've gotta do some animations to finish it off (no pun intended). So, it's looking like this is going to be the longest single day in One Day at a Time up to this point in development. Just for some context, the whole of the last update was slightly over 8000 lines of code. Why is this first day so long? Because, I included the stuff after midnight when they got to where they were going, post being at the club.

Even though I expect day two to be smaller (at least I hope it is, but if there's things I wanna add I'll do it), it's still going to compete, if not be the biggest update yet again in the history of the game! It seems like that's happening every update now. But hey, who really wants less content anyway.

Lots fun it this one, along with some struggles. Pretty par for the course, when it comes to what you'd expect from the game. But, one thing of note in this update, is it sets up a lot of things that will be paid off down the line, some in the next update and some in subsequent updates. I was really happy with the scene at Reggie's place, and looking forward to writing his and MC's next adventure together. Because, that's going to leave you with a choice that won't be penalizing in the game. It will be a freebee as it were, but it will test your conscience for sure!

Don't wanna get give too much away, and there's plenty more stuff going on, you'll just have to keep playing and find out! As far as a release window goes, I'm targeting the second half of November. It may end up being the very end of November. As I said in the last dev update, there's a lot of real life stuff I'm juggling right now. Mom and Dad's divorce hearing is in a week and a half. I'm trying to stay the hell away from the that, but I'm sure I'll get sucked in one way or another.

I just don't get it, why would you leave someone at 70 years old? Oh well, if you're still reading thanks for letting me vent.
Anyway, very excited about this update as usual! I think that's about it for now.

I'll check back in with you guys in a couple of weeks, but I probably won't have release date to give you on this one til the dev update after next. I think that's about it for now.

As always, hope you are all doing well! Cheers!

Thanks Walter Victor and Tremonia for keeping people up to speed on what's going on with the game. It's appreciated, and I'm still lurking around here every once in awhile, but just not posting much.

TBH I'm not posting anywhere really, even on my personal IRL accounts. I am a little more active on my discord (I can control that), but I'm kind of just trying to take care of my own mental health right now. And, unfortunately the Internet isn't a great place to go for reinforcement in that department.

Don't get me wrong, there are many of you on here who are very positive. But, the internet as a whole, and a subset of people on this site, kind of ruin it at times. When my skin's a little thicker I can take it, when it's the way it is right now I can't. So, not going to apologize. But, want to say again I appreciate the people who are keeping everyone up to speed. Thanks again!

Anonymity, faceless anonymity on the internet. It allows people free rein to do whatever they want. Most people behave responsibly, but a large, vocal minority think it's cool to tear down and destroy, just because they can.

There's not too much that can be done about it. On F95, the mods can handle some of it, and I find the Ignore feature to be extremely useful.

But, you take care of you. While we enjoy your company, your well-being is more important.

Stay well, and good luck with all your concerns and endeavors.

No needs to thank. Like I said so many times: stay well and take the time you need and not what other demands. Walter Victor said all before me and he's right again.

Thank you, just trying to put one foot in front of the other and stay in the moment. Making the game helps me take my mind off stuff. But, there are times I just need to chill here and there. It's still coming along pretty well though. I've got a lot done since I started development for this update. In fact I'm going to go back to working on some scenes right now.

Honestly I'm kinda staying away because I afraid I'll verbally trash the next person who mentions the use of movie quotes in any way shape or form for now! LOL I'm so sick of hearing about that. They act like it happens 100 times per update. it's like 2 at most. I even had someone say. "We don't know your culture so you can't use pop culture references."

Well, I never said I was trying to appeal to everyone in every place on the planet, if people can't accept that, I can't help them. I wouldn't expect them to do a game and leave out things they wanted to put in they thought were relevant from their culture. Anyway, you can see why I'm staying off and not commenting. I didn't respond to that person either and I think it was on discord.

Everyone "knows" that every single sentence in the game is a movie quote. :p

More seriously, I never understood why having movie / pop culture references is a bad thing in the first place. Even if it is 100 per update. If I don't know the reference I just move on or if I find it interesting I can note it and look it up in the future. What's the big deal about? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

My thoughts exactly. It's done in TV shows, novels and movies all the time. So, why is it such a big deal in an AVN?

I also think a lot of people seem to forget the N in AVN. This is a novel that uses pictures and animations (actually I see my game as more of a play at times).

Something else that drives me nuts is when people try to say my game is not sexual. Jesus, there are at LEAST 3 sex scenes in every update. Do I do Philly quality animations, NO. I don't have 10 video cards. But, I actually take the time to write the sex scene instead of just writing "Oh fuck me". I'm aware my animations aren't the best on this site. But they've improved a lot and are by no means bad. I just don't get it.

Is it because I actually dared to add (at least I hope) a compelling story along with it? Is that against the rules? I know I don't use the normal formula of 20-30 renders a scene with really interesting framing (although I'm doing more of the framing stuff lately) and a bunch of dialogue over a render that just sits there.

Sorry, I want them to talk to each other and engage. I want their faces to be alive.

In closing, if I'm doing it wrong. I have no interest in doing it right! :p

That felt good, I haven't had a proper rant on here in a while and I think that was quite controlled TBH. Cheers!

Because there're too many kiddos who don't get the references and also just "playing" those games for the lewds. I don't understand those guys either. If I want porn, I would go to one of the billion porn stream sites somewhere in the net.

Well, that's trolling for you.

You know, I'm a woman who don't paint the walls to comfort someone. Sure, your animations aren't the best. But first, it's like you wrote, you improved a lot, at second they ARE by no means bad, and for the third you said it yourself here:
I also think a lot of people seem to forget the N in AVN.
...it's all about the N! I said it many times and I say it again: it's called Adult Visual NOVEL for a reason. An AVN can be fantastic if the story is great and the graphics aren't. But it doesn't work the other way. The best graphics can't rescue a bad AVN if the story is shit.
That felt good, I haven't had a proper rant on here in a while and I think that was quite controlled TBH.
Let it all out. A good rant once in a while is a good thing to take care of yourself. Those suckers always forget devs are humans. A dev has to accept critics, and I know you do, because I saw that many times. But critics has to be fair and constructive. How should one improve if all one get is meaningless shit?

Zoey, you're making a good AVN. In some ways the story and the message behind it helped me a lot. I know it's easy to say but hard to act that, but don't give a shit of what people are saying if they don't say it in a friendly way. Just sort the critics in the categories helpful and bullshit. Take the helpful critics to your heart and behold what you can learn from it or if it's something you can understand but don't want to change or can't change. And for the bullshit critics... well, just flush them down the toilet. You aren't owe anyone anything. It's your game. It's your work. It's your story. You do you.

Take care and my best wishes!

Having a couple of characters who quote movies to each other is an interesting quirk. When everyone is doing it, even the waiter in the fancy restaurant, it gets a bit weird, like otherwise everyone has their own personalities but when it comes to this they are all the same. The cast is large enough that it stands out.

In my experience most people like to talk about their favourite movies, tv shows, music, books and so on. Yes, including quoting. It is very common to bond over shared cultural experiences. If people here hadn't brought it up all the time it wouldn't have entered my mind that amount of quotes could be considered to be a lot. Never talking about that sort of thing would be weird to me.

I don't understand some because I've never seen then (some from the 90s and early 2000s.) I haven't been to a theater since 1993 and just didn't watch that many on DVD or download until I found certain sites where you get them free...

I don't understand all either. But so what? It's not like the story hinges on understanding those few quotes. I don't want to take away them for others who do understand the quotes; it wouldn't gain me anything but would also lose the stuff that I do understand.

I will just say my two cents on this here. I love the movie quotes and music talk in general that is going on in this. I mean, come on, who does not love a good Pulp Fiction quote or two? (Just what came to me in the moment) and also how the characters react is bloody awesome.

True. Some of the older references I get that many younger players wouldn't (I'm pushing 50.) Especially older songs.
