Ukghar You're part of the reason I'm going again. Why would someone rate a game high they have to "Endure" in order to play. That has "Unneeded text, along with references". What do I need to remove so you can "endure" my game more easily?

1697471562980.png

Here's what's funny, your post clocks in at one of the longest in this thread, yet you accuse me of unneeded text in my game. If you don't like it why do you play it and have it on your list?

Now go change your rating because I called you out in here. I'm just sick and tired of people who have no idea what goes into making a game act like they're experts! You guys have NO idea the heart and soul that goes into these things. NONE.

Someone once told Mozart (I'm not comping myself to him) that there were too many notes in one of his Opera's and he replied with "They are not more or less than what I require". So I'm going you the same reply.

Zoey, calm down, I try to be just.

“Why would someone rate a game high they have to >>Endure<< in order to play. That has >>Unneeded text, along with references<<. What do I need to remove so you can "Endure" my game more easily?”

This very short review on my list of 5/5 game imo is similar to the longer one that I posted some time ago in your tread:

In this short review I wasn’t so elaborate as in long review, because I would be imo hard to follow considering how many games I listed. If you also find my long review not clear enough I’ll try to explain it to the best of my ability.

“Here's what's funny, your post clocks in at one of the longest in this thread, yet you accuse me of unneeded text in my game. If you don't like it why do you play it and have it on your list?”

I am aware that my post is one of the longest in this thread and I think that we both have a problem with using too much text to express our thoughts. I checked both my text and some of yours in grammary and that program also found that our texts are “worldy”. And I like your game, that’s why I have it on your list.

PS. I'm sorry, but I'm out of time. I promise to check your edited post later on and respond, if needed.
Dostoevsky was accused of being wordy. Didn't stop him from writing some of the greatest novels of all time. I don't have time for this stuff either. I should be working on my game not indulging people on a site who don't even pay for it. So to anyone, play it, don't play it, like it, don't like it, support it, don't support it, I don't really give a damn anymore. Some can some can't and those who can't pick apart those who can. That's not an attempt to brag on myself, it's just something I've observed. So, let the stream of hate continue in this place, doesn't mean I have to be a part of it. Like Walter Victor told me. It's diminishing returns for me to entertain the whims of everyone on here anymore. Good advice I need to be following.

Oh yea, I remember this one now. I'm not writing this for people of all cultures, you're thinking of Assassin's Creed games. I'm writing the game I want to write, and some people appreciate the references and don't see it as a "drawback" or something that must be "Endured". Also, God forbid someone would look something up they didn't know and get exposed to a movie or TV show they really liked! That would be damn shame wouldn't it!

Ofc you can put references. However, you put a lot of it. And that's not only my opinion. I eventually gave up on checking everything, true. But could you imagine someone who doesn't know most of these references you put in your game? Would they find it excellent that the game is full of references, for sure?

There's like 3-5 per update. and each update is 8000 lines of code. How is that a lot? Seriously, how and you sit there a justify that being a lot? You can always write you own game with no references in it. You have enough criticisms it would seem you're and expert and can do it better than the rest of us. So, I'd suggest making your own game. Everybody else is doing it. Granted 90% of them are shit, and most decent devs would and have agreed with me on that.

Most games that come out look amazing, because they take 2 hours per render and update every 6 months. But, very few can tell a story anyone would wanna read. Hell, I'm considered one of the better writers on here, and some people don't like what do, or feel they must "endure" it.

"There's like 3-5 per update. and each update is 8000 lines of code. How is that a lot" - That's actually a lot, as most porn games, at least to my knowledge, have about that amount at most overall (except maybe references to other porn games).

Ok, I can try to make my own game. As for criticisms, I would be honoured if you would review my game when (if) I ever decide to share it.

Yes. (only speaking for myself of course)

I have a suggestion for you: if you don't understand a reference, just pretend it is an in-world reference that doesn't exist in real life. Because there is no need to really understand references, it is just something extra for those that happen to do. Or are curious about it.

As an example, the original Deus Ex contains lots of references and quotes from real and non-real fiction. It is great! It got me to read The Man who was Thursday for example. And the non-real ones are interesting as well.

Don't think of this as a "porn game". Think of it as a visual novel with adult elements. The "visual" and "novel" parts are much more important than the "adult" parts.

Does anybody actually like the game? Or are you all here out of "pity" like one of the reviewers said? And my game is only popular because of "confirmation bias"?

I guess I shouldn't care since I have patrons I know like it, but after Ukghar saying they "endure" the game rather than enjoy it. Kinda makes me wonder if some of the hate raters are right and it really does suck. Or maybe I'm just not in a good place. Idk.

This place has some really evil people. But some really good ones as well. So it's hard for me to not wanna engage with the good ones. But damn if the bad ones can't break your spirit at times.

I've talked to other devs and they said that's why they don't come on here anymore and I shouldn't be either. But I'd miss the cool people. So I keep coming back. Then the cycle repeats with A holes that drive me away. Not sure what to do TBH.

I can't speak for no one else but myself.

Thanks guys, I wasn't fishing for compliments, but I did need the positive reinforcement today. Working on the game as we speak. And just to be clear. Even if no one liked it I'd still continue making it, because I love doing it and it's part of my soul at this point.

Of course! There are some things I've criticised, no game is perfect, but overall it's very good. And I don't think that Ukghar is saying he endures the game, rather that he endures what he doesn't like about it because he likes the rest of it.

At the beginning, I was a bit iffy about the story, since it revolved around drug abuse and doing anything to "get their fix". But I grew to like it once it turned out to be a story about recovery (mostly), and the struggles of getting sober from long time drug abuse. It gained me some insight into a world I don't know anything about.

I already knew your name from your walkthroughs and mods from before, and that "name recognition" got me to, at the very least, try the story out. And knowing it partially comes from your personal experience makes it even more believable.

In essence, I came for the initial name recognition, and I stayed for the story and my interest in the future of the characters.

Problem is, the trolls and the "evil people" are often more visible than the "good people" and those who actually care about you and your story. Trolls and bad eggs are enough to push any content creator into hiding, no matter the content type or platform (I've seen it before on multiple occasions on YouTube and Twitter as well).

Yea, the vocal minority. It seems they know exactly what to say to hurt someone too. Kinda sick when I really think about it. I've always had my struggles with it, but when I'm in a better place it's pretty easy to move on quickly. When I'm having a not so great time of it IRL, it's a little harder. Glad you stayed around and let the game grow on you.

P.S. - To your point about other types of content creators, I've seen people make streamers cry on twitch. Again, sad IMHO. It takes a diseased human to do that type of shit.

Personally, I love this game, and originally I downloaded it on a whim. I've only completed season 1 so far, and I'm waiting until the next update to start chapter 2. The story that this game encompasses is to me, a real eye opener. Where I never had those in my family that were addicted to hard drugs, one half of my family were ALL alcoholics, so I know what substance abuse can do to someone and their loved ones. The way that this game depicts addicts is spot on from my personal perspective.

As for all the references made in the game, I must be one of those that actually gets what you're talking about right away, as very rarely do you reference something that I haven't heard before or know about. So personally, keep those coming as I love them.

As for the girls themselves, I think you have a good array of personalities and I can't wait to see where all their individual stories end up. Keep up the good work, and do your best to ignore the haters.

My brother is an addict, has been since his early teens and it has estranged us. After playing this I feel like I understand him a bit better and if he ever shows up saying he wants help I'll be a bit more prepared to deal with the situation whether he's genuine or not

Not just content creators. It is draining for anyone decent to read all the negativity and hate around here.

And the best way to fight it is to disengage. If you see a troll post, don't reply to it. Instead write something positive about the game that has nothing to do with what the troller posted. And reply to those who write positive things. The way to make threads better are to write posts that are good and engaging with the good posts. The desire to correct people who are factually wrong can be very strong, but the sad reality is that it is almost impossible to win someone over with logic and reason. The most infuriating for a troll is to be ignored.

One Day at a Time is incredible. It touched me in a lot of ways. It quite emotionally heavy, and there are quite a few difficult moments, where I'm not ashamed to admit I've teared up a bit, but it is really one of a kind. Don't change a thing. It really shines a light on addiction in a honest way, rather than with a moralistic lens, like so many people have. Most people are so judgemental, and think that addicts don't deserve any sympathy or understanding. I disagree. This world and our current society are hard enough to deal with, so if someone wants to escape, we shouldn't judge. Who among us hasn't made decisions that aren't necessarily the best for us. Nobody, that's who.

Really, it is unfair to compare One Day with 98% of the other games here. Most are just for fun escapism, with varying results, but this game is really art, in my book.

You know, drug addiction isn't the easiest subject matter to portray, and unfortunately for the world, many people don't have a lot of empathy for others not like themselves. Their world is very small. Me, myself, and I. For those that only see the world and society in how it benefits them personally, this game won't speak to them, and it will probably give them uncomfortable feelings they rather avoid.

For the rest of us, it is really something special and unique. Every character is amazing. Who wouldn't dream of a Lydia or Audrey by their side.

Dev Update #60 (Progress)

Looks like Mary is happy about something, or is she...

Alright everybody we're at, let's call it 6500 lines of code, 31 animations (or it will be after the last two finish rendering today) and a whopping 2034 static renders. However, I still have six scenes left in day two of the update. One of which will be larger, and the other will probably be very large. Telling you about a lot of the stuff other than Barbs birthday party on the second day of the update, would be a little spoilery.

That's why I altered the name of the promo image above, and it's actually from the first day of the update. But, I still didn't want you to know what that scene was. So, for once I don't have a whole lot to share. Other than the numbers, which are already crazy and there's still a nice chunk of development ahead of me. Good news is I've finished all the sexy times stuff, so setting up the rest of the scenes once I write them will be easier from here on out (I guess we have 7 scenes left if you count one I still have to set up and render that's already written). I also need to write the dialogue for the last sex scene, but that can be done whenever the mood hits.

Anyway, I won't take up much more of you time. We're still targeting an end of November release date for this one. My hope is to have the rest of the scenes done in the next three weeks, then have the rest of the time for polish and doing re-writes and whatnot. I usually require that long.

I'll give one more dev update before the release and that will be in two weeks from now, but I still probably won't have a release date for you at that time. I'm just going to say the end of November and get it to you when it's done. That's the way we did it in the beginning of the game, and while I'd rather give you something more concrete, I just don't know. I may be able to do that, say a week before release this time. But, I simply don't have the margin the for error time wise with this one that I normally do, if I wanna get it to you by the end of November. Which is my fervent goal!

That's about it for now. As I said, I'll check back in with you guys one more time in a couple of weeks!

As always, hope you are all doing well! Cheers!

Hey, you can always watch the movies after you know where the quote is from, not only enjoy the AVN, also improve your culture. Even if end up not liking them, you learned something.

Peace :D
This is kind of the point, but I get hate for it anyway. Oh well, they aren't going anywhere.
Also, I know some of these people are skipping scenes and text or else they would know movies are a BIG way these characters bond, it's talked about a lot. But, again, people can't be bothered to read, so...

I'll say it for the 1000th time. I'm offering an experience, if you don't like said experience, there are 1000's of other people offering experiences on here that you can check out. Now I personally think some of THEM suck, but do I go in their threads and tell them, or almost beg them to change their game to suit me. No, I just choose not to consume their product. Not to mention the majority of you (including me for some games) aren't paying a red cent for any of these games. So, what do you really have to complain about? The sake of complaining, because it's not EXACTLY how you want it? Well, I got news for you. THAT DOESN'T EXIST! :)

P.S. - Unless you create it yourself, HOWEVER you'll have people who don't like it exactly how you like it. It's a no win scenario, or kobayashi maru if you will (now people can hate of me for making references in the thread, by the way that's Star Trek so nobody has to look it up). So, I make the game the best why I feel it should be made and let people cry and whine. Most of the time I can ignore them. Lately I just want to call them out. LOL
