A poor comparison. He did not toss away a thing he bought, he actually made it. His product, his rights on it. That's a big difference.

I think just because F95 claims that a story is abandoned that it means the developer has abandoned it. There are a million reasons why someone may have to put aside something to take care of life in the real world. It does not mean that they have given up on the project. And as the developer is the one that has created the work so far, and it is their vision, they and only they should have the right to decide it's Fate. When the dev made the comment that they wanted to take over the story I reached out to Ced to let him know the situation. He indicated at that time his desire to continue working on Our Fate. I informed the dev of what Ced decided. He was not happy but to his credit he walked away from OF and started his own story. By the way it is a good story if you want to check it out.

Actually that is untrue. As I replied earlier I informed Ced about the situation and was informed by him that, no he intends to continue the story. IOO to

Sorry, cat sat on keyboard. So to continue. I told the dev what Ced said. The dev walked away. No legal threats were used and the dev started his own story.

Ah. See. I remember reading on the original games page that someone said he sent that to this Dev. So that is where I got that from.

The way I see it you abandon those rights when you abandon whatever you make. Like squatters in an abandoned house, you will get those sooner or later if you simply forget about a house you build and walk away for whatever reason (and it's surprisingly difficult to have them evicted if you change your mind later). A similar idea is actually enshrined in trademark law (a bit less ridiculous than copyright and Mickey Mouse laws). Why do you think Nintendo and Disney would sue you to hell and back if you did the same to them? They are not obligated to, but if they don't defend their trademarks then they are considered public domain and free for the taking. Regardless, still kinda dumb to put a dead half-finished game on Steam that can be had here for free and expect people to actually buy it, but apparently there's even dumber people on Steam doing exactly that and I missed an opportunity for probably a few hundred free bucks (hell maybe even a few thousand, people can still buy it apparently). I guess I will just have to be quicker on the draw and keep my eyes peeled for other dead AVNs that are also loli-free and Steam-acceptable. Hell this one seems a good start, unlike Patreon Steam has 0 problems with incest (that iirc didn't happen yet anyway).

That's genuinely good to know. While he was active (and trust me folks, he was very active and engaging before the sudden point of vanishing) I greatly enjoyed the many interactions.
I think the basic point stands - that being that people shouldn't get so wrapped up in their own small and selfish viewpoints, or think that their desire for a particular story to continue is more important in any way than all of the myriad reasons a dev might justifiably and entirely reasonably, want, or need, to stop. There's absolutely no excuse at all for wild, venomous accusations.
Maybe as a writer and creator of stories myself I just see a lot more possibilities than some others, but even now knowing he's not dead (and happy at that), he could be dealing with an serious illness, or have suddenly needed to become the full-time carer for another. There are almost infinite possible ways in which his life situation might change, suddenly and severely, that might cause someone to put the development and support for a game on hold, but not be willing to completely give up on it. After all, the way copyrights and other intellectual property work, this will eventually come into the public domain when the rights expire (rights tend to last around 70 years, based on the Biblical lifespan of "3-score years and ten" for most original works).
I also remember all too well the Dev and author of "Lexi" - a much loved Dev who did actually die, leaving a widow behind. Some of the others involved with the project sought to continue it, and such was fair enough given they were to whatever extent co-creators. Naturally, as is usually the case, this did not work out at all well. Even aside from the other troubles, a change of author will always change the tone, the feel of the work. It is a different author, so really, a different game by just some of the same team. Even the greatest literary talents struggle immensely, and rarely succeed, in truly emulating another writer. One doesn't have to look at too many adult games and AVNs to know that there are very, very few genuine literary talents around.
I just played the game for the first time, after reading lots of good comments about it and i have to say i like it A LOT. Exept from some badly translated parts (i guess the creator is not an english native), i love the game.
Its TOOO sad that it is on hold or maby even fully abondoned. I would love to play the rest one day!!!
The story is nicely foreshadowing and a lot of possibilitys are hinted. This could be an amazing game.

You mean because he don't want his game/story gets "continued" (aka ruined) from a wannabe dev? Or do you really believe a good and experienced one is wasting his time on this instead making his own, new game? Oh yes, what a "shitty" dev...

The fact that you instantly knew what i was coming at without me having to spell it out shows that deep down were all thinking the same. If youre gonna be a gatekeeper than at least complete your project.
btw does he pay your for playing lawyer in the comments? he better cause you put alot of effort in it for it to go unrewarded like the people that were waiting for him to finally complete this game
Absolute travesty that this game has been abandoned! Despite reading the reviews, many of which were warnings not to get invested in the game, I played it, and was crushed when it abruptly ended at the beach scene. There's got to be something the community can do to get this VN back on track?

This story still stands out, all this time later, for the unique style. There's nothing quite like it. That should tell you that there's no dev team quite like it either. If other dev teams were able to just create stories like this one, you'd have seen them.
That's not saying that there aren't lots of other devs with other styles, able to create really good but very different games. But it ought to tell you a lot about how likely it would be to catch the same lightning in the same bottle to finish this one.
Heck, I'm not even sure the original author could, after this time, because Ced too will very probably have changed, gained different perspectives, and if starting today, would create a very different kind of game.

Five years later, this visual novel still impresses me, and I think the other one that compares in terms of storytelling is Hillside
I guess no one knows the assets for the female characters in the game.
