First off: Pardon, but if you look through the thread and listen to a couple patrons what they whine about Seymour, it is pretty clear most expected a moustache twirler! Just remember the stupid discussion about Lena being sold to a sheik.
You're missing the point. Nobody is expecting Seymour to appear through a flame cone, have demon wings and talk Cthuvian. We know he isn't pure evil. He is still the main antagonist though. That is established. He had a grandiose introduction where the world around Lena effectively stopped until she met him. That's not 'morally gray', that's bad guy shit.
I am sorry to have to tell you there are paths in the game, where this does not happen. On the contrary, on some paths Seymour saves the Cafe, shoulders expensive medical bills he had no need to and was not even expected to do so, just for example. He can do good if he wants to.
I explained already that dealing with him meant you had to make compromises. Again, it is established. You ignore him as Lena, everything starts falling apart. You don't and now you look like the richest bitch in town.

Same with Ian and working for Hierophant and the relationship with Viktor as well as the implications regarding your integrity, etc.

Seymour was designed as the guy who always has the upper hand, at all times. You gain something from him and lose something of your character.

People are disappointed that with Lena he becomes a mellow simp. He got disarmed and neutered really fucking quickly. It's very inconsistent with his initial buildup and kills any narrative tension you once had thanks to him. He lost that aura of a man who could do shit with absolute impunity.

Hi guys, discussion running, target bullseyed!:)

First off: Pardon, but if you look through the thread and listen to a couple patrons what they whine about Seymour, it is pretty clear most expected a moustache twirler! Just remember the stupid discussion about Lena being sold to a sheik.

Terry, I am sorry to have to tell you there are paths in the game, where this does not happen. On the contrary, on some paths Seymour saves the Cafe, shoulders expensive medical bills he had no need to and was not even expected to do so, just for example. He can do good if he wants to.
Seymour is not a beaming hero, he is cunning, clever, likes to have his "personalised deck to play" and has few qualms about seizing his advantage, but that is hardly worse than an average businessman. On most paths he is that main antagonist, that is true, but not all evil (as seems many players believed) and on several paths he is hardly an antagonist.

Someone mentioned the mayor election. Yes, Seymour tries to get a candidate through he prefers for his business, being a grey eminence. To be cynical, that is not worse than what has become the norm in our democracies in the last years, that parties bring incompetent losers into cushy positions due to party membership. To be blunt, Perry for all his faults hints several times that his father is not a very successful mayor. Seymour jumping on the ship of the candidate which will probably win is opportunistic, but not dumb.
I’m no expert, but is there any scenario where he doesn’t interfere with Lena’s ability to get a job? Because if not, then no matter what else he does with his money (which isn’t a problem for him since he’s rich), he’s still the villain. He’s manipulating her. No one is pure evil—I’m not saying he kills puppies for fun. I’m saying there’s no room for debate about whether he’s a bad person or not.

Honestly, I never gave two fucks about Seymour, he just has a very punchable face. Very uninteresting character, all of his dialogue lines seem like he thinks he’s much smarter than he actually is, not even gonna get into his poor understanding of Nietzsche’s philosophy.
My interest in Lena’s character continues to diminish with every release. I liked her way better at the beginning, now Ian’s storylines feel much more compelling to me. I think that’s due to the fact the characters Ian interacts with are more interesting than those fucks Lena interacts with. You can see Ian have a future with his partners, with Lena, aside from Ian, you just can’t see it.

Well, I can't wait for Lena to wipe Ivy's smirk off her face with her fist and bitch slap Cindy more.

To be fair you can actually call him out about this with Lena:LOL:
Thats whats so frustrating about Seymour,is clear EK had some interesting plans for this character, she just never expected the old man to be so unpopular so she went full old simp with him :HideThePain:

I see the point you make, but that does not invalidate my observation that a non-small part of the player base obviously, going by their laments, expected a definite villian just missing the Mhuhahah of a mad scientist trope.

And this is where you erred. I knew the moment I saw Seymour that on the paths you have good relations with him he would not be such a villain or a villain at all. I take it you do not know the person his image is partly based on? No Spainard outside extremist circles, would depict a complete villain with his likeness.
I think EK is frustrated with politics since Seymour and the two mayor candidates are clearly based on existing politicians and the political plotlines in game (had a laugh seeing Seymour and his candidate being buddies, considering how their real life variants "like" each other), but she would not make them complete as..., because they are recognisable to Spanish and some other European people.

As for Victor, he is an as... in his own way and only a solution if you bump heads with Seymour. If you are on good terms with Seymour you simply have no need for the other snobbish publisher in town.

To be fair you can actually call him out about this with Lena:LOL:
Yes and going by his reaction he was actually aware of it. He seems to have tested Lena if she really knows much about Nietzsche´s writings, since he smiles and murmurs "even better". Lena can score big points with Seymour there.

It seems only few of us liked Seymour's turn.
