I mean, I hate being harsh on something that is free. But this is another koikatsu VN attempt to rekindle the spirit of Lessons in Love or other similar games (although Lessons in Love is a high bar, this does not come close). It also uses models in screenshots sourced from Koikatsu, although it lacks the animated sex scenes that most Koikatsu games have. It runs in unity instead of Ren'py, because the developer decided to remake the entire engine from scratch for a really undercooked JRPG sequence a third of the way through the game, which is never revisited or expanded upon. Unfortunately the JRPG sequence is the only part of the game that is animated, and it really has amazing animation, but it lasts only a few seconds and is never revisited and feels completely removed from what is otherwise essentially a very linear visual novel. There is an "explore the world" sandbox element that is thrust upon you once in a while, but it's only there to allow you to miss some minors scenes or content and/or skip some expository dialogue as there is no branching story, decision making, or gameplay.

The choice to go with unity instead of Renpy means that the game is missing tons of the quality of life/convenience features you might expect from a visual novel of this size. The decision to animate the ONLY fight in the entire game when none of the sex sequences are animated, repeatable, or available in a gallery, goes to show that this game really is an experimentation by the creators instead of something they have approached with a concrete plan to produce something quality.

Unfortunately, the story and characters are also poorly designed and written, although if you find yourself impressed with Dragon Ball Z, 50 Shades of Grey, or Pokemon fanfiction, you may find the writing compelling. The story begins very clearly tongue in cheek in a comedic harem style, but quickly drops that tone in favor of attempting to make you feel some connection to cardboard characters who primarily seem to cry in an attempt to get you to empathize with them before having progressive sex sequences where a group of women join you in discovering extremely convoluted and virtually nonsensical "lore" of a fantasy/science fiction setting that seems to have been made as the game progressed without much of a common thread other than justifying very cheaply that your harem have some deep spiritual connection to you and that's why they are okay with all doing various sex acts with you.

I can't help but think that the developers would have done a better job if they decided to commit to making a visual novel that is comedic. The elements of other styles of play detract from to the experience, undercooked as they are. The writing drastically falls off the face of the earth after the prologue when the game shifts from the comedic to the "serious," as the writer is neither skilled at world building or at creating believable characters that you can feel actual empathy towards. The fap quality is not very high, as there are no animations and there is hours of content to wade through for a few still sex scenes with no gallery, although they aren't bad as at least they are posed well and made with good koikatsu models.

We fucking get it, you like animations.
" I hate being harsh on something that is free " No, you clearly enjoy it, since you said a big load of bullshit.
"Rekindle Lessons in Love" what the fuck does this game have in similar to LiL? In any way?! Hell, the game is patreon safe to begin with.
This game is clearly not for you, go back to your "deconstruction of the harerm genre" game. And stop trolling.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but are the early scenes in a lower resolution? (Just got to the point where you meet your sister at the train station) I noticed that I have it set to 1080p in the settings but it still seems like it's upscaled from a lower resolution, if it improves over time I apologize in advance for coming here so quickly, but I just wondered cause all the screenshots seem much closer to 1080p than what I see lol
I can post an example if need be, just wanted to confirm before getting deeper into the story

Thanks in advance for any replies

That’s correct, the early renders were done at 720p with a pretty basic jpg compression. The later renders use a less crunched jpg algorithm so they scale up better but it’s just how it is for now.

The main reason for all of that is just the render count, the game would be well over 10gb right now with the current count at just under 20,000 if they were 1080.

Ok cool, I didn't want to go super deep in the story before confirming that is all, I've been recommended OoT by at least 4-5 people now, and when I finally went to play it, I thought I might have messed it up somehow lol

Thanks for the quick reply! :giggle: (y)

The prevalent Mommy issues, yes.

The giant mecha will be in Game 2 though.
i was more referring to the Jamie situation and the whole thing about souls sharing a vessel. i mean it's not REALLY evangelions instrumentality but it's definitely close, at least for me. but i am not done yet, i am currently on episode 23 i think, i am definitely having fun though!

This one is a ride for sure. Been chewing through it since Sunday and just caught up.

Wasn't feeling it at first but I stuck with and I'm glad I did.

Its not perfect, the start is a bit shaky, it takes forever to get to the porn, which I know now isn't the main focus but still an important part for me at least, not just the porn either the story itself takes a good while to get proper good. But there's lots of charm to it which kept me going even if it wasn't necessarily delivering exactly what I wanted.

Eventually it does get good, the story gets going and the time you've spent learning about the characters does pays off. And for the pervert in me there's also a ton more of the good shit later on, the sex scenes are intense even without proper animation and later on are well paced and better spaced out.

There's things to nitpick, like the humorous parts of the story not meshing well with the serious tone but ultimately that will vary from person to person, some people will find the blend perfect others will think it should only be serious or only be humorous. Personally the father reveal was what made me stick with it when started so whenever things get super serious its does get a bit hard to take it as serious as I probably should.

Oh if there's one thing that I would change it would be to add the ability to advance text with the ENTER key. That's it.

Good fucking work, keep at it and this game has achieved the impossible, it kept me away from Elden Ring for half a week and that's not an easy thing to do.

NGL, I was very critical of the game in a sense that it didn't really need any of the H scenes cuz the story was progressing in a way that it didn't need it. The more I went through every scene I still held firm on that stance because the game didn't warrant it and honestly it felt rushed because of the nature of where the game is distributed and prolly the demand.

I feel ole buddy for being upset about the animations, but again it's not that big of a deal unless that's all you wanted to see. The game creator really wanted a story to tell and you gotta respect it and let them get their craft off, there's something to be said here. I can actually feel the emotion on all the characters as it unfolds and my only gripe is there's so much, yet so little still talked about and I'm waiting on every update hoping to get some more insight cuz that's how good the story is.

I will admit, the H scenes definitely get hotter and it even tickles the lil niches I enjoy during sex scenes that most other games do not all. But again, to this point, I still want to hold firm that the author doesn't need sex to push and good story at all. I'm under the impression that most other players in this forum feel the same way cuz no one really complains about the scenes or talks about them let alone say anything any animations not being in the game. They outweigh the complainers.

All and all, ole buddy, keep doing what you do. You went from touching the surface to now getting somewhere and really gripping the reader. You gotta make what you make regardless of what me or anyone says and I respect the hell out of that.

Also note the fact that you don't have a patreon that votes for what you want to see next. That's an added bonus for me in my book because you already have a story mapped out and you don't really need output outside of that and that's drive. I hate when authors go that route cuz then the shit takes longer and story never really gets anywhere.

Just started playing this yesterday. Up to about chapter 10. I really wasn't enjoying the start, had no idea what was going on (might be worth revisiting that at some point so as not to put new players off? I don't know). Glad I persevered thanks to some of the comments though, because I am LOVING it now! Great writing, great renders, great characters. And to top it off the music is awesome! Is there a playlist anywhere or a way to get the mp3s?

Any suggestions about the parts you dont like at the begining? (and please, dont say its the lack of sex... the story doesnt intend to go full lewd at the begining, but growing the relationships first).
And yes, here you have the full playlist of the songs you can find in the game (im not sure if the ch30 ones are in but... if so they will be soon).
Happy to read you are enjoying it, thankgs for giving it a chance, and damn.. chp10 you are in for a wild ride! keep it up and enjoy.

Haha no it's not the lack of sex , I'm totally fine with a slow burn game when the story is this good. It just felt disjointed, dissorientating, it jumped around too much and too quickly with characters I didn't know or care about yet. I get that that was maybe the intention but it did put me off continuing till my third try. Take that as you will, hope it's taken in a constructive manner rather than negative. And thanks for the playlist!

edit: Ok, thinking a bit more into it ... it was also because i'm used to renpy games. Clicking through the dialogue felt really unresponsive and slow. I realise you can disable the transitions but I don't want to do that as I like the transitions in the visuals. Maybe play with quickly fading out the dialogue you've just read once you click to give the user an indication that they are indeed progressing? I'm a UI/UX designer by trade so I may be more sensitive to those minor things though!

Just to be sure, how long were those transitions? because its set to very short duration now, but at the begining when the game was moved from Renpy to Unity, there was some errors that caused some transitions to go for like 1 or 2 minutes (that are suposedly fixed now).
And yeah, i like a slow burn too if the characters are worth it, i guess here we just have PTSD with the "game need more sex early" we kinda had one scene.. the Vic and CJ at the begining.. but patreon said "no bueno". So that one is gone.

Nah they're very short, the timings fine. It's the fact that the text shows no sign that you have clicked that bugs me!

I've made an entire doc to help me keep track of characters and their relationships and possible foreshadowing and man.

Characters with fake/secret names are a serious theme, isn't it?
