Believe it or not, I hate the unskippable animations too.

The unskippable combat animations are purely a technical limitation. When we had skip enabled for those, Ren’py completely shit itself. It’s part of the reason for the ongoing engine switch.
Was I the only person that didn't mind the combat animations? I mean, I was just astonished at what you managed to do with KK's CharaStudio and Ren'Py!
I didn't even think something like that was possible with the Ren'Py engine!
Your game rekindled my desire to learn how to use CharaStudio and Ren'Py.

Thank you, I’m glad you liked them.
The animations themselves aren’t the problem but the issue is how Ren’py handles them.

The fact that there’s so many black screens and that the animations don’t cycle seamlessly is a purely Ren’py problem, which we’re hoping to solve with the unity switch.

the combat sections going forward are going to be much bigger and better, so getting the framework for them working right is a huge priority.

My last comment was that combat and free roam might destroy this for me. Now UNITY? Yeah, I think I'm done. A shame really, as if you were to look back over this thread since the beginning, I was complimenting the hell out of this.

Yeah you were done last time too. Can you not come back this time?

Not wanting combat or free roam is fair enough, people like different things, but why is Unity the thing that breaks the game for you? It'll be the exact same experience just running on a different backend, what you see of the game shouldn't change at all (other than animations actually running smoothly).
I see a lot of undeserved hate for Unity, it's a perfectly fine engine that people can make good games with, it just has a really low barrier to entry which means shitty devs can also make shitty things with it.

I don't even get what he's complaining about with free roam, he played a build that had it and said he loved it.

Combats been out since February 1st and it's had nothing but good reviews with some genuine critique that I frankly agree with.

I don't know dude. There's a certain type of poster that really likes to rile themselves up over nothing.

I was worried about Unity cause of minor issues that tend to crop up (no rollback, having to advance by clicking or enter instead of spacebar) but Anon's already said they're taking these things into account, so it's basically going to end up just like the Ren’py version, but with a combat system that doesn't stretch the engine to its limits.

The music got replaced.....
It was either that or get sued into the next dimension.

That being said, it's being replaced with original music made for the game wherever possible, which is nice because I can tailor songs exactly for the scene they're for.

The games going to have a pretty big original score by the end of development.

Don't worry, give it a fresh run through and you'll see it still works. The soundtrack will always be a huge priority for me, to the point of spending >$1000 on original composed music for the game.

Also all the vaporwave/citypop stuff is still in!

Anon 2020: You see.. im making his webcomic using Koikatsu...
Anon 2021: We are composing our own soundtrack for a game that is being ported to Unity and is gonna be a proper turn based lewd rpg.
Anon 2022: So we bought EA because..
Gotta get the anime OVA in there somewhere too.

To get back to the topic of the animations, I think my biggest problem with them was how weak and limp they felt. the whole lack of response in the attack animations and absence of any flash visual effects gives them a decidedly incomplete feel, especially compared to the pretty good looking "one on one" animations.

Frankly, I agree. There's a lot of room for improvement with the animations across the board (even forgetting the complete lack of sound effects).

Just keep in mind those animations were done by hand with keyframes in a porn game by a complete amateur with zero experience (aka me). :Kappa:

That's completely fair, I'm complaining because I like the game and want to highlight the things I think could/should be improved.
